Ensures successful operation of YMCA Camp Chandler of the YMCA of Greater Montgomery, including all aspects of camp including a thriving summer camp program, group camping, outdoor education, leadership development, and special events; program development; volunteer recruitment; staff supervision; financial development; community relations; property management; collaborations; budgeting; and financial results.  For nearly a century, YMCA Camp Chandler has been dedicated to nurturing well-rounded, adventurous young leaders through a blend of exceptional counselors and core Christian values.  Set on a stunning 108 – acre natural landscape on the shores of Lake Jordan in Alabama’s stunning countryside, our camp offers exciting challenges on both land and water.  By connecting with nature, acquiring new skills, and taking time to reflect on how God inspires confidence, wonder, achievement, and a sense of belonging, our campers forge unforgettable memories.  Camp Chandler offers programs for all ages, year-round.

YMCA Camp Chandler is seeking a motivated and professional leader to direct Under the guidance of the Senior Vice President, COO.  The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the operation and maintenance of camp; the recruitment, hiring, supervision, and training of all camp staff, both full and part-time. Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in human services, recreation, business, social services or equivalent
  • Five or more years of professional camping experience in the YMCA or another nonprofit preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience in all aspects of operations, including staff supervision and development, successful camping practices, quality program development and implementation, volunteerism, facility and property management and sound financial practices.
  • Understanding of the mission and cause of the YMCA and the respective roles of volunteers and staff.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community; track record of building authentic, constructive relationships with others.
  • Ability to handle multiple demands and priorities and achieve organizational objectives
  • YMCA Multi-Team Leader certification preferred.
  • Be innovative.
  • General aquatic knowledge is required.  LGI or Lifeguarding certifications, CDL, and ServSafe certification preferred.   
Essential Functions
  • Directs YMCA Camp Chandler and supervises the leadership to assure sound operation. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions with staff, volunteers, members, and the community.
  • Leads and supervises all facility/property maintenance, repair and overall upkeep for the association to meet the needs of current and potential participants and the Y's safety, service, and security objectives.
  • Coordinates the development of branch board and committees.  Directs and oversees the volunteer activities (policy and program).
  • Develops, manages, and monitors operating budgets and meets or exceeds budget targets.
  • Continually reviews key performance measures and ensures the operational growth of the YMCA through program expansion, member recruitment and retention, pricing strategies, and collaborations.
  • Ensures high performance and success of annual, grant, and capital contributions goals.  Assures full funding for mission work and financial assistance along with future growth.
  • Provides staff leadership to the necessary Cabinets.
  • Oversees the hiring, training, and supervision of camp staff and volunteers.
  • Identifies potential areas for programming to accomplish YMCA goals,  and works with staff groups to develop and implement programs.
  • Fosters a climate of innovation to develop camper-focused programs and leads branch staff in the planning, development and implementation of new program initiatives and activities.
  • Promotes positively the activites and programs of Camp Chandler to the general. Actively pursue and develop relationships within the community including schools, churches, homeowner’s associations, civic organizations, etc. 
  • Create a camper-focused culture to promote membership growth and retention.
  • Supervise Child Nutrition Program.
  • Ensures ACA accreditation is maintained.
  • Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.
