Job Description

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. This position will be responsible for taking the initiative to develop and grow camp programming through effective, innovative, and forward-thinking approaches.

Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's degree in Education, Recreation Management, Youth Development, Business Management, or related field is required.
  • Experience in non-profit and/or youth program organizations preferred.
  • Five plus years of supervisory experience leading operations across multiple sites, building high-performing teams, and delivering measurable results.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Platform. Familiarity with Web design and desktop publishing is preferred.
  • Must have exceptional customer service skills and strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport and credibility quickly.
  • Develop and utilize systems to properly maintain relationships with prospective and existing families, participants, and supporters of all resident camp sites.
  • Ability to build relationships with community leaders and develop partnerships to increase growth for all resident camp sites.
  • Hardworking, energetic, and problem-solving leadership style.
  • Proficiency in developing and leading a team of staff and volunteers.
  • Experience in developing and monitoring financial projections, budgets, and assessment of program effectiveness.
  • Ability to manage time efficiently to maximize effectiveness in staff oversight, relationship building, and administration functions.
  • Knowledge of the American Camping Association guidelines preferred.
  • Must be certified in CPR, First Aid, AED, Child Abuse Prevention and Food Handlers certifications within thirty days of hire.
Essential Functions

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS – OVERNIGHT CAMP DEPARTMENT LEADERSHIP

  • Oversee all resident camp administration to include programs, activities, registration goals, camp structure, curriculum, data management and camp policies and procedures.
  • Develop and supervise leadership-level staff. Oversee scheduled staff for department needs in coordination with organizational needs.
  • Plan, implement, and oversee new and additional camping programs.
  • Oversee rental strategy, pricing, and policies.
  • Lead resident camp strategy to develop and deliver outstanding experiences for members, participants, internal customers, and others.
  • Build warm and supportive relationships. Consistently greet and assist everyone in a positive way. Strive to provide customer service that exceeds expectations.
  • Respond to concerns and complaints in a way that makes each person feel valued. Resolve problems in a prompt and appropriate manner.
  • Build and nurture strategic relationships to enhance support to the YMCA.
  • Maintain a safe working environment for self and others.  
  • Manage the season’s opening and closing procedures.
  • Ensure all camp water systems are operable and meet all regulatory and demand needs, which includes chlorinating water and collecting water samples.
  • Develop, lead, and manage partnerships, at a strategic level.
    Lead and manage the complete inventory at the beginning and end of the season.
  • Encourage health, wellness, honesty, caring, respect, responsibility, teamwork, good sportsmanship, and other character-based qualities.
  • Create and maintain a positive and effective work environment while creating high staff morale.
  • Ensure camps have all the resources needed and operational approvals to operate to meet federal, state, and local agency requirements. Oversee and ensure all state and YMCA policies and procedures are followed.
  • Lead and develop overnight camp leadership meetings. Attend and participate in executive-level team meetings.
  • Direct and manage all staff meetings and trainings, including preparing agendas, and arranging training for staff during the season.
  • Ensure all staff meet training requirements.
  • Creates, executes, and maintains all camp communication strategies for staff, parents, and partners of the YMCA, outside organizations, and the community at large.
  • Create and manage newsletters and social media updates for prospective campers, and parents on designated camp schedules.
  • Lead, develop, manage, and oversee enrollment goals and recruitment plans to be in alignment with organizational goals.
  • Work in partnership with the Director of Marketing and Director of Operations to create an annual marketing calendar, develop and manage marketing materials, and distribute through appropriate channels.
  • Lead the development and implementation of camper retention strategy.
  • Monitor all camps for retention of participants and lead to the adjustment as needed, in a timely and effective manner.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS – OPERATIONAL SITE LEADERSHIP

  • Respond to concerns and complaints in a way that makes each person feel valued, initiate action for prompt resolution to any problems.
  • Build and nurture strategic relationships to enhance support to the Y.
  • Continuously maintain a safe working environment for self and others.  
  • Open and close camp for the season.
  • Operate camp water system which includes chlorinating water and collecting water samples.
  • Direct and Manage partner relationships for operational sites.
  • Ensure that the operational site is completely inventoried at the end of the season.
  • Encourage health and wellness, honesty, caring, respect, responsibility, teamwork, good sportsmanship, and other character-based qualities at camp.
  • Mentor staff; create and maintain a positive and effective work environment with high staff morale.
  • Supervise the maintenance and kitchen staff to ensure a safe, clean, and well-maintained facility.
  • Direct and manage all staff meetings and trainings, including preparing agendas, arranging training for staff during the season for operational sites.
  • Ensure all staff meet training requirements.
  • Create and maintain communication channels with parents, institutions that have partnership with the YMCA, other organizations, and the community.
  • Establish enrollment goals (aligned with organizational goals), develop, and implement a recruiting plan to register participants into the YMCA resident camp programs to ensure goals are met.
  • Create Newsletters and Facebook updates for parents on upcoming camp events.
  • All other duties as assigned.
