Job Description

The Human Resource (HR) Director will lead and manage all aspects of the HR functions with a focus on fostering a culture aligned with the YMCA’s mission, values, and goals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
  • SHRM-CP/SCP, PHR/SPHR preferred.
  • At least 5 years human resource management experience required.
  • Knowledge of HR laws, regulations and best practices.
  • Experience in payroll systems and HRIS software.
  • Commitment to the YMCA mission and ability to model its core values.
Essential Functions

HR Compliance & Employment Law

  • Ensure YMCA policies and practices comply with federal, state, and local employment laws.
  • Maintain and update the employee handbook and HR policies.
  • Oversee documentation and reporting related to labor law compliance, including EEO, FMLA, ADA, OSHA, and workers’ compensation.
  • Manage HR audits.

Payroll Administration

  • Oversee payroll processing to ensure timely, accurate compensation.
  • Coordinate with Finance to maintain payroll records and ensure proper deductions, reporting, and tax compliance.
  • Stay current on wage and hour laws, including exempt/non-exempt classifications.

Benefits Administration

  • Oversee employee benefit programs, including health, dental, vision, life insurance, retirement plans, and wellness initiatives.
  • Serve as the primary contact for benefit vendors and brokers.
  • Lead annual open enrollment and ensure compliance with ACA and COBRA requirements.

Recruitment & Talent Acquisition

  • Lead full-cycle recruitment, including job postings, screening, interviewing, and hiring processes.
  • Partner with department heads to identify staffing needs and ensure hiring aligns with strategic goals.

Onboarding & Offboarding

  • Oversee onboarding to ensure a welcoming and efficient process for new hires, including orientation, paperwork, and training schedules.
  • Manage offboarding procedures, including exit interviews and separation documentation.

Training & Development

  • Assess training needs and develop professional development plans for staff at all levels.
  • Coordinate internal and external training sessions.
  • Support performance management processes, including goal setting, evaluations, and coaching.
  • Manage all employee training records, ensuring timely completion of required courses.

Risk Management and Employee Relations & Culture

  • Serve as a resource for employees and managers regarding HR issues, conflict resolution, and organizational policies.
  • Support risk mitigation by training staff on safety procedures and workplace policies.
  • Lead or support investigations related to grievances or workplace misconduct.
  • Provide guidance on disciplinary matters and ensure consistent application of policies.
  • Foster a positive workplace culture aligned with YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
