The Summit Area YMCA is seeking a dynamic and data-driven leader to serve as our Senior Director of Membership. This position oversees membership operations across both the Summit and Berkeley Heights branches, managing a combined $5 million membership budget. As a senior leader, you will drive strategies that enhance member acquisition, engagement, and retention—ensuring our Y remains a welcoming and thriving center of community.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of leadership experience in membership, customer service, or sales with a track record of meeting performance metrics.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to synthesize data and make evidence-based decisions.
  • Proficient in CRM systems, data reporting tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Proven ability to lead teams, influence across departments, and manage complex projects.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and public speaking skills.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
Essential Functions
  • Develop and implement a multi-year membership growth and retention strategy aligned with association goals.
  • Use market research, member surveys, and member insights to identify trends, segment audiences, and create targeted acquisition and retention campaigns.
  • Align membership practices with the Y’s mission and strategic plan.
  • Oversee performance tracking systems and dashboards to monitor key performance indicators, including new joins, retention rates, member attrition, usage trends, tour tracking, and member satisfaction metrics (eg., Listen 360 and Net Promoter Score).
  • Use data and metrics to analyze gaps, forecast growth opportunities, and evaluate ROI on marketing and retention efforts.
  • Deliver monthly reports to the Executive Director/ COO and senior leadership, highlighting trends, progress, and strategic recommendations.
  • Supervise and coach the Membership team at SAY branches to deliver excellent customer service and meet performance goals.
  • Standardize best practices in member onboarding, engagement, and cancellation recovery across association.
  • Support recruitment, training, performance evaluation, and professional development of front-line and supervisory staff.
  • Foster a culture of hospitality and member-centric service across all touchpoints.
  • Cultivate corporate, community, and nonprofit partnerships to drive membership referrals and special promotions.
  • Create initiatives that build community, increase member belonging, and promote program participation.
  • Collaborate with program directors to connect members with offerings that align with their goals and interests.
  • Represent the YMCA at community events and oversee membership outreach efforts.
  • Lead association-wide campaigns, including cancellation win-back initiatives and POE fundraising efforts.

Salary & Benefits

This full-time, exempt-level position generally works Monday–Friday during standard business hours, with occasional evening or weekend responsibilities. The Salary range for this position is $70,000 – $80,000 annually, based on experience.
