Job Description

The Vice President of Development and Special Projects is a dynamic, strategic senior leadership position responsible for designing and executing the organization’s development strategy, with a strong focus on grant writing and management, special project oversight, and major donor cultivation. Reporting to the President/CEO, this position will spearhead the final push for the "All Together Better" capital campaign and cultivate support for capital investment in the Ingersoll Outdoor Center. This position plays a key role in ensuring sustainable growth by managing institutional funding streams, building donor relationships, collecting and analyzing impact data, and overseeing complex, grant-funded initiatives aligned with the mission.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, business administration, or a related field; master’s degree preferred.
• At least 5 years of non-profit fundraising experience, major donor cultivation, and capital campaign experience, including 2 or more years in a leadership role.
• Proven track record in major gift cultivation, solicitation, donor stewardship, and campaign management.
• Experience with government, foundation, and corporate grant writing.
• Strong leadership abilities with experience guiding teams and overseeing strategic initiatives.
• Proficiency with fundraising systems and technology.
• Solid financial acumen and a data-driven approach to decision-making.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to build lasting relationships with donors, stakeholders, and community partners.
• Passion for advancing the YMCA’s mission of youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
• Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

Essential Functions

Capital Campaign Leadership: Provide strategic leadership to secure the final 10% of campaign gifts 
for the Y’s $16 M All Together Better Capital Campaign. Develop and execute strategies for major 
gifts, corporate partnerships, foundations, stewardship events, and the campaign's public phase. 
Strengthen alumni relationships and build a foundation for a future capital investment in our 
Ingersoll Outdoor Center.

Grant Management: Identify, write, submit, and manage government, corporate, and foundation grants. 
Track grant timelines, ensure compliance, and manage reporting requirements. Collaborate with 
program staff to collect outcomes and ensure alignment with funder expectations. Maintain and 
expand a pipeline of funding opportunities to meet strategic goals.

Fund Development Team Leadership & Donor Relations: Ensure department goals align with 
organizational priorities and best practices. Lead the planning, execution, and evaluation of the 
Y’s annual campaign, capital campaign, and endowment growth initiatives, setting clear goals and 
performance metrics. Cultivate and steward relationships with donors and community partners. Work closely with the 
Director of Communication and Program Directors to create compelling donor communications by 
gathering personal stories of impact and materials that highlight mission delivery and campaign 
progress.

Community and Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with the Board, Capital Campaign Committee, 
Development Committee, and key community partners to amplify outreach by building a network of 
well- informed ambassadors that are actively engaged in fundraising and donor cultivation.

Data Collection & Impact Management: Create and manage systems to collect, analyze, and report 
programmatic data. Use data to support grant applications, donor reports, and organizational 
decision- making. Produce compelling reports and dashboards that communicate success and areas for
improvement.

Strategic Initiatives: Provide project management of strategic initiatives funded through grants or 
restricted donations. Oversee program implementation, timelines, and budgets in partnership with 
program teams. Develop systems to monitor progress and evaluate the impact of special projects.
