This position supports the work of the Y, a leading non-profit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Director of Human Resources at the Hopkins County Family YMCA oversees the development and implementation of talent management/human resources policies, plans and services, including recruitment, selection, legal compliance, employee benefits, compensation, employee relations, diversity and inclusion, employment practices and procedures, employee communications and events.
· Bachelor’s degree in business, human resources or equivalent
· Five or more years of professional experience in human resources management and staff development and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
· Strong knowledge of HR best practices and employment law
· Experience with HR software and reporting.
· Demonstrated ability to manage confidential information with professionalism.
· Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
· Must be CPR/AED certified (or obtain within first 30 days of employment)
· HR certification preferred (SHRM-CP/SCP, PHR/SPHR)
· Develop and execute HR strategies that support the YMCA’s mission and organizational goals.
· Oversees talent management, including recruiting, interviewing, training, staff training and leadership development, retention, recognition, employee communication and career development.
· Assesses and evaluates training and staff development needs, and develops programs to meet needs to provide employee growth and development. Conducts and/or schedules training programs when needed.
· Manages the onboarding process for new hires, including conducting background checks, preparing orientation materials, coordinating orientation sessions, and ensuring all necessary documentation is completed before new hire start date.
· Ensures new employees are introduced to the company culture, policies, and procedures.
· Manages employee relations by addressing employee concerns, resolving conflicts, and fostering a positive work environment.
· Develops and maintains performance management and appraisal programs. Provides assistance to employees and supervisors with questions and workplace problems.
· Oversees compensation and benefit programs, including job descriptions and classification, pay structure and salary adjustments, and accrual banks.
· Assists qualified employees with benefits enrollment during open enrollment periods, including health insurance, retirement plans, and other employee benefits. Provides employees with information about available benefits, deadlines, the enrollment process, and completion of payroll deduction forms as needed.
· Administers programs to enhance employee engagement and appreciation.
· Oversees risk management areas such as workers compensation claims & annual audit and YMCA insured drivers.
· Manages employee termination processes including exit interviews, collecting company property, and ensuring compliance with legal and organizational procedures. Maintain termination records in accordance with company policies and relevant regulations.
· Remains current with employment laws and regulations, and ensures compliance with all employment-related laws and YMCA policies.
· Oversees HR systems and employee records to ensure accuracy and improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the organization. Ensures timely and accurate submission of data requested by the EEOC, YMCA of the YUSA, Department of Labor, etc.
· Participates in director leadership meetings and contributes to strategic planning efforts.
· Manages the HR department’s budget and resources.
· Works directly with assigned committees of the board to build volunteer relationships, develop policies, oversee policy implementation and meet the related needs of the board.
· Creates and distributes communication (emails, letters, employee newsletters, presentations, spreadsheets, surveys, etc.)
· Other duties as assigned.
