Job Description

Under the direction of the Director of Operations – Programs, the Association Sports Director is responsible for providing strategic leadership, hands-on coordination, and administrative oversight for high-quality Youth and Adult Sports programs across the YMCA of High Point. This dynamic and innovative leader will play an integral role in the development, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of engaging sports offerings that align with the mission, values, and goals of the YMCA. In addition to overseeing core sports programs, the Association Sports Director will provide regional leadership and support to ensure consistent, high-impact programming across YMCA branches. The position also includes managing related summer sports camps, activities, building supervisors and special events that engage the community and promote active, healthy living. The role requires flexibility, including evening, weekend, and holiday hours as needed, to ensure program excellence and strong community engagement.

Qualifications

1.       Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent preferred.

2.       One to two years related experience preferred.

3.       At least 21 years of age.

4.       CPR/First Aid and AED Certification within the first 30 days of employment.

5.       Proficient in Office 365 including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

6.       Attentive to details, be able to work with and meet deadlines, take initiative to develop and provide information and controls necessary for efficient office operations.

7.       Excellent written and oral communication skills.

8.       Ability to take initiative in making decisions and solving problems in the areas of assigned responsibilities.

9.       Ability to work independently with little supervision.

10.    Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations, during as well as after hours.

11.    Customer service oriented.

12.    Completion of YMCA program-specific certifications, as deemed necessary by supervisor.

13.    Scheduling flexibility based on meeting demands of job roles, early mornings, late nights and weekend work.

14.    Valid NC Driver’s License.

Essential Functions

1.    Adheres and complies with the YMCA of High Point Employee Manual, Policy & Procedures Manual, and Code of Conduct including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergency preparedness.
2.    Initiates, directs, promotes and supervises programming activities to meet YMCA objectives. Increases participation and expands youth and adult sports programs in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
3.    Recruits, hires, trains, leads, develops, evaluates and schedules sports staff, volunteer coaches, officials and building supervisors.  
4.    Develops and manages the budget for the Sports Department at the Hartley Drive Family YMCA branch and for the building supervisors.
5.    Secures, prepares, schedules and maintains athletic fields and facilities for all sports programs and gymnasium related sporting activities for the YMCA of High Point. 
6.    Transports and sets up equipment; monitors and purchases necessary sporting equipment for the sports department and membership department within budget guidelines. 
7.    Provides support and leadership to the Sports Coordinators at both the Carl and Linda Grubb Family YMCA and the Carl Chavis Memorial YMCA. 
8.    Communicates effectively, efficiently and addresses concerns with association parents, volunteers, staff, officials, vendors, colleagues and supervisors.
9.    Creates teams from registered participants and develops and distributes team practice and game schedules.
10.    Organizes and conducts parent orientation meetings, and training/meetings for volunteer coaches association wide.
11.    Develops, communicates and distributes sports rules, guidelines and handbooks.
12.    Ensures background checks are completed and tracked annually on all volunteers prior to sports seasons.
13.    Purchases and distributes team uniforms and awards for the YMCA of High Point within a timely basis.
14.    Organizes, promotes and hosts season celebrations and events for the YMCA of High Point.
15.    Organizes, promotes and conducts sports clinics for the YMCA of High Point.
16.    Organizes and facilitates summer sports camps for the Hartley Drive Family YMCA.
17.    Assists in the association wide marketing and distribution of youth sports program information, organizes and schedules program registrations. May review and process program scholarship applications.
18.    Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
19.    Assists in YMCA fund raising activities, special events and obtains budgeted amount of Youth Sports Sponsorships for the Hartley Drive Family YMCA.
20.    Responds to all members and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
21.    Assembles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness and quality of each sport’s program.
22.    Represents the YMCA with key community organizations and events as required.
23.    Prioritizes and attends all Hartley Drive Family YMCA Leadership meetings and board meetings.
24.    Organizes and schedules association sports meetings that include agendas, outcomes and goals with the coordinators from both the Grubb and Chavis branches.
25.    Conducts behavior at all times in a professional manner to reflect positively on the YMCA.
26.    Participates with other members of management in the YMCA’s fundraising campaign.
27.    Performs other duties and tasks as requested by immediate supervisor to facilitate efficient and effective production of the YMCA.
