Job Description
Under the supervision of the classroom teacher, the Teacher Assistant is responsible for assisting in the delivery of a high-quality educational experience, using the Creative Curriculum, for the children and families under his/her care.
The Teacher Assistant will consistently strive to demonstrate cause-driven leadership through the following YMCA Leadership Competencies - Mission Advancement, Collaboration, Operational Effectiveness and Personal Growth. Qualifications
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- Minimum of one year related experience or proven performance working in a child care program, preferably with children ages 3-5 years old (this requirement may be fulfilled through a practicum or student teaching).
- Demonstrate a willingness to grow professionally.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Bi-lingual in Spanish required.
Essential Functions
- Assist the teacher in planning and conducting daily activities for children.
- Have a strong knowledge of all aspects of the daily routine, and anticipate the needs of the Teacher.
- Assist the teacher in guiding the children’s behavior and learning through active interaction and implementation of lesson plans.
- Assist the teacher in maintaining accurate records for licensing and funding agencies.
- Appreciate the diversity of families and how to effectively and appropriately share with them information about their child when directed by Teacher or Preschool Director.
- Know and follow all state and center emergency policies and procedures.
