Job Description

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility by developing, organizing, and implementing high quality, member focused, aquatic program s. The Aquatics Director at YMCA of Austin intentionally fosters a cause-centered culture that is welcoming, genuine, hopeful, nurturing, and determined while also managing high-quality, member-focused aquatics program s. The Director is responsible for the development, implementation, and supervision of the aquatics department, which includes programming such as swim lessons, swim team and staff. This position will ensure that aquatic programming and experiences are safe, fun, and enjoyable.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in related field or 2+ years equivalent experience in Aquatics programming.
  • Within 30 days of hire, completion of Child Abuse Prevention, and Westbend assigned classes.
  • Current YMCA or American Red Cross Lifeguard certification
  • Current YMCA or American Red Cross Lifeguard instructor certification preferred, or ability to obtain within 90 days
  • Current YMCA or American Red Cross Swim Instructor certification, trainer preferred
  • YMCA or American Red Cross Supervisor certification or ability to obtain within 90 days
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • CPO certification preferred or obtained within 6 months of hire.
Essential Functions
  1. Manage existing high-quality aquatic program s that uphold YMCA standards of quality, safety, and care, i.e. swim lessons (group, adaptive and private) and swim team. Expand program s that align with community needs per strategic plan.
  2. Supervise aquatics staff, handling recruitment, hiring, training, scheduling, and performance evaluations. Motivate staff to achieve department and organizational goals. Ensure records of staff certifications are current and complete.
  3. Model relationship-building skills in all interactions. Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community organizations. Maintain regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility.
  4. Conduct internal and external safety training for lifeguards, swim instructors, staff and community, ensuring certifications are up-to-date.
  5. Complete all required department safety and quality documentation and drills on required timelines. Be an active participant of the Safety/Policy Committee. Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community organizations.
