YMCA Camp Director- Year Round

Seeking a YMCA year-round Camp Director in beautiful Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. This YMCA has been in existence for over 140 years.  
Job Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated YMCA professional to lead the YMCA Camp program. Highlights of the position include: supervision, staff development, fiscal management, understanding of state and local licensing requirements, creativity in developing curriculum, and relationship building with families, staff, and community partners. The YMCA Camp Director is responsible for the leadership, organization, and supervision of all camp-related programming, including Summer Day Camp, Preschool Camps, School Day Out Camps, Kids Night Out, Family Night Outs, and Teen Camps. This position ensures all programs are safe, high-quality, and mission-driven while supporting the YMCA’s core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. The Camp Director will oversee staff training, program quality, and participant experience to ensure a fun and enriching environment for children and families. This position will also serve as a backup and support for School Age Programs as needed, maintaining continuity of care and operational consistency across all youth programs.

 

Qualifications
  • Minimum age of 21 years old and ideally an educational college diploma.  
  • Must complete Child Abuse Prevention Video Courses before the first day. 
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings,                weekends as the program dictates.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Early Childhood Education, Youth Development, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in youth programming, camp management, or early childhood education.
  • Experience with state-licensed childcare or preschool programs preferred.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications (or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire).
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends as program needs require.

 

Essential Functions

The YMCA Camp Director will:

  • Assume responsibility for the health, safety, and welfare of all children.
  • Handle all staff discipline issues. Keep proper written documentation.
  • Advocate for children and their families.
  • Organize and coordinate registration for all programs.
  • Ensure that the site program meets and follows State of Wisconsin license regulations, YMCA policies, and health/safety regulations.
  • Monitor children’s files to be sure they are complete and accurate.
  • Develops and monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
  • Assists in YMCA fundraising activities and special events.
  • Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement all YMCA camp programs, including Preschool Camps, School Day Out, Kids Night Out, Family Night Outs, and Teen Camps.
  • Develop engaging, age-appropriate curriculum and activities promoting social, emotional, and physical development.
  • Ensure programs meet YMCA quality standards, licensing requirements, and safety guidelines.
  • Evaluate program success through participant feedback, attendance trends, and staff input to drive continuous improvement.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise seasonal and part-time camp and preschool program staff.
  • Conduct regular team meetings and professional development sessions to promote program excellence and staff growth.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative, and mission-driven team culture.
  • Ensure all staff maintain required certifications and uphold YMCA standards and policies.
  • Ensure compliance with YMCA, state, and local health and safety regulations, including requirements for licensed preschool programming.
  • Maintain records for attendance, incidents, and staff certifications.
  • Ensure all staff are trained in CPR, First Aid, emergency procedures, and Child Abuse Prevention.
  • Address safety issues proactively and communicate appropriately with families.
  • Build strong, positive relationships with children, parents, and guardians.
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding program updates, schedules, and special events.
  • Manage communication platforms (e.g., Band App) to ensure families receive timely and consistent updates.
  • Represent the YMCA’s mission and values in all family and community interactions.
  • Develop, manage, and monitor program budgets to ensure financial responsibility and sustainability.
  • Oversee registration, billing, and attendance systems to maintain accuracy.
  • Assist with marketing and promotional materials for upcoming sessions and events.
  • Support grant writing, partnerships, and fundraising initiatives related to youth and camp programming.
  • Plan and lead Family Night Outs, community events, and seasonal camp celebrations.
  • Collaborate with local schools, agencies, and organizations to expand awareness and participation in YMCA programs.
  • Support and participate in branch-wide events and community initiatives.
  • Serve as a backup for School Age Programs as needed, including before and after school care and school break programs.
  • Provide leadership and operational support to ensure program quality and staff coverage during absences or high enrollment periods.
  • Collaborate with School Age Program leadership to align goals, maintain safety standards, and ensure program consistency.
  • Develop and implement emergency procedures, including drills and crisis management.
  • Serve as the primary contact for families regarding program updates, policies, and concerns.
  • Maintain consistent communication with families through digital platforms, newsletters, and meetings.
  • Plan and oversee special events such as Family Nights, Parent Workshops, and School Age programs.
  • Build partnerships with local schools, community organizations, and stakeholders.
  • Develop, monitor, and manage program budgets to ensure fiscal responsibility.

  • Support grant writing and fundraising initiatives related to youth.
  • Act as a backup for School Age and Preschool programs as needed.

  • Collaborate with other YMCA program directors to maintain consistency and quality across programs.
  • Other assignments assigned by the Senior Youth & Family Director.
