The Y is seeking a Childcare Director: Preschool, Afterschool, Day Camp to lead the Plano Preschool Program (ages 2-5 years old) and provide targeted support to Afterschool and Day Camp programs (ages 3-12 years old) in the Plano, TX and surrounding area.
Position Overview
Reporting to the Senior Program Director of Childcare and based at the Plano Family YMCA, this role provides operational leadership, staff supervision, licensing compliance, and program excellence for ages 2–12. The Director ensures high-quality preschool operations while supporting school-age programs to maintain consistency, safety, and positive experiences across all childcare initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Preschool Leadership (80%)
- Oversee all daily preschool operations—including classroom routines, attendance, staff scheduling, supply management, meal service, facility readiness, and safety checks—to ensure consistent, high-quality program delivery aligned with licensing expectations and association goals.
- Lead all aspects of staff management, including recruiting, training, supervision, and performance evaluation, while cultivating a positive, high-performing team culture. Provide ongoing coaching and professional development to elevate instructional practices, safety awareness, and service excellence.
- Support enrollment growth through intentional recruitment efforts, strengthened family engagement, and proactive relationship-building with current and prospective stakeholders.
- Implement and ensure fidelity to the developmentally appropriate Leap Frog curriculum, monitoring classroom practices for instructional quality and alignment with early childhood best practices.
- Maintain full compliance with Texas Child Care Licensing regulations and YMCA policies through continuous monitoring, accurate documentation, and strict adherence to health, safety, and ratio requirements.
- Communicate consistently with families through newsletters, daily updates, conferences, and direct communication to maintain transparency, build trust, and support strong family partnerships.
- Manage preschool budgets and fiscal processes in collaboration with Resource Operations Center Teams and leadership partners, ensuring responsible revenue tracking, expense monitoring, and efficient resource utilization.
- Collaborate with YMCA preschool programs across the association to align operational practices, share resources, and support collective program excellence.
- Support broader YMCA branch initiatives, including board meetings, marketing events, community outreach efforts, and the Annual Campaign.
Afterschool and Day Camp Program Leadership Support (20%)
- Assist the Senior Program Director in coordinating childcare operations to ensure alignment in PreK curriculum, staff training, and program delivery across Afterschool and Day Camp. Support licensing compliance and maintain all required TRS documentation with accuracy and consistency.
- Support the hiring, onboarding, and ongoing development of school-age program staff, reinforcing high standards for instructional quality, safety, and youth engagement.
- Strengthen community presence through outreach, marketing support, and relationship-building efforts that enhance program visibility and cultivate positive partnerships.
- Monitor and analyze key program data—including attendance trends, survey feedback, and enrollment patterns—to identify opportunities for improvement and guide strategic decision-making.
- Build and maintain partnerships with community vendors, enrichment providers, and special guests to enhance the experience and value of both preschool and school-age programs.
- Identify program enhancement opportunities and provide thoughtful recommendations to leadership to support continuous improvement and organizational goals.
- Develop and distribute parent resources—such as behavior guidance materials, developmental milestones, and program newsletters—to support family engagement and reinforce strong home–school partnerships.
Additional Expectations:
- Mileage reimbursed in accordance to Association Policy.
- Standard Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9:30 a.m.–6:30 p.m. with a one-hour lunch break and a few annually scheduled events over the weekend to support operations.
