Job Description

Under the direction of the Senior Program Director, the Aquatics Manager is responsible for managing daily pool operations including, but not limited to, supervising staff, program implementation, maintaining pool safety, department administrative tasks and performing lifeguard and/or swim instructor duties.

Qualifications
  • Must be a proficient swimmer
  • Previous lifeguard experience
  • Previous swim instructor experience
  • High school diploma
  • YMCA experience (preferred)
  • Previous management experience (preferred)
Essential Functions
  • Create and ensure a safe and welcoming environment
  • Ability to enforce policies, problem solve, and handle emergency situations
  • Ability to assist and communicate with all populations of people regardless of race, age, and special needs

  • Attend trainings when appropriate
  • Support YMCA special events, signature events, and campaigns
  • Perform all tasks to the best of your ability and with a positive attitude
  • Responsible for administrative duties such as audits, unannounced skill drills, incident reports, and other record-keeping
  • Responsible for actions of staff while on duty and reporting all disciplinary incidents to the Senior Program Director
  • Continually monitor all members and guests in the pool, whirlpool, sauna and surrounding areas for safety and well-being
  • Keep the pool area uncluttered by putting unused equipment in the correct area. All equipment should be properly stored at the end of the shift
  • Handle all lifeguard operational and staffing emergencies that occur while on duty and be the first point of contact for operational and staffing emergencies on weekends
  • Secure, protect and check needed equipment daily for safety, cleanliness and needed repair, following through to make sure it meets state requirements
  • Attend staff meetings
  • Act as liaison in email and phone communications regarding aquatic department concerns
  • Schedule lifeguards and swim instructors in homebase
  • Complete payroll for all Aquatics Department Staff
  • Observe, review and give direction to staff
  • Other duties assigned by the Senior Program Director and/or Executive Director
Required Certifications
  • CPR, First Aid, AED (must obtain within 90 days of employment)
  • New Employee Orientation (must obtain within 90 days of employment)
  • Department Specific Insurance Trainings (must obtain within 90 days of employment)
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification
  • YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor Certification (preferred)
