Job Description
This position, as top administrative staff for childcare and youth programs, is responsible for day-to-day general administration of early childhood and school-age services. Duties include supervision and coaching of over 100 staff, managing a $4.5M+ budget, income generation, program development, policy compliance, quality control, community partnerships, long-range planning, and facility oversight. The Executive Director of Youth Development ensures compliance with state licensing requirements, child safety protocols, and YMCA standards while advancing the Association’s mission.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Child Development, Human Services, Nonprofit Management, or Business Administration required.
- Master’s degree in Education, Public Administration, Business, or Nonprofit Leadership preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience in youth development, childcare, or education.
- At least 5 years in a senior or executive role managing multi-site operations and large teams (50+ staff).
- Demonstrated success in policy development, compliance management, and implementation of SOPs.
- Proven ability to manage multi-million-dollar budgets ($2M+) with strong financial forecasting and reporting.
- Experience working with school districts, state licensing agencies, and community partners.
- Demonstrated ability to develop staff training programs and track compliance.
- Crisis management and risk management experience strongly preferred.
- YMCA Multi-Team/Branch Leader Certification preferred.
- CPR, First Aid, and Mandated Reporter certifications required within 90 days of hire.
Essential Functions
- Ensure compliance with all state and county childcare licensing regulations (Title 22/Title 5) and YMCA standards. Develop, implement, and enforce written Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), including Lost Child
- Procedures, supervision ratios, safety drills, and staff training requirements.
- Direct and administer total operations including execution of policies, procedures, and staffing. Evaluate program effectiveness, staff performance, and overall program safety.
- Develop and maintain a structured staff training program (orientation, ongoing, and annual refreshers) with documented completion tracking for CPR, First Aid, and Mandated Reporter certifications.
- Supervise, coach, and evaluate staff performance for over 100 employees across multiple program sites. Provide clear performance expectations, feedback, and annual reviews.
- Prepare, administer, and forecast budgets. Submit monthly variance reports, corrective action plans when needed, and ensure fiscal accountability and sustainability of all programs.
- Maintain strong relationships with school boards, superintendents, licensing agencies, parents, and community partners. Respond promptly to inquiries and complaints.
- Ensure facilities and program environments are safe, well-maintained, and meet YMCA standards.
- Represent and promote the YMCA’s youth programs in the community, advancing mission and strategic goals.
