This position is integral to the operation of the YMCA as it involves creating, developing, organizing and implementing the Safe Places Program and Downtown Youth Programming. The Director will be responsible for staff management, program development, licensing standards, as well as the creation of strategic alliances with other agencies, and maintaining relationships with and other community partners.
He/she must have the ability to demonstrate understanding of program development and management; effective and efficient time management; demonstrate capacity for managing and leading people; excellent oral and written communication skills, interpersonal and coaching skills, and organizational skills; ability to exemplify a “Y-Voice” that demonstrates determination, genuine concern, welcoming attitude, hopefulness and a nurturing spirit.
· Must be at least 21 years of age and hold a bachelor’s degree in a related field, and have at least two years of related experience.
· Minimum of two years of staff management experience.
· Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
· Knowledge of youth and teen issues, instruction practice, group and program creation and facilitation, and community outreach.
· The selected candidate must be approved by the state licensing before assuming the role
· Work flexible hours, ensuring an active presence during the Safe Places Program. This position’s schedule will have daily evening work ending in the late evening. The position will be based out of the Downtown YMCA and will spend 15% time at Flint Development Center and Cathedral of Faith.
· Develop and facilitate youth programming at the Downtown Branch, including generating revenue-based programming.
· Ensuring ongoing compliance with YMCA policies and procedures, risk management standards, state licensing standards, and Praesidium accreditation.
· Develops and implements program curriculum and activities which meet grant goals and identified needs, where applicable.
· Develop, manage, and monitor program operating budget and meet or exceed budget targets.
· Manages expenses to the approved budget while meeting daily programming needs, including purchasing needed supplies and managing partner contracts to implement programming.
· Creates and maintains a staff structure, including recruitment, hiring, staff development, and supervision of a high-quality and diverse team.
· Oversee and direct the general marketing for Safe Places, including flyer design and placement, community and school recruitment, and other marketing activities.
· Create key partnerships within the community to increase program participation and community support.
· Foster a safe and respectful environment within a diverse community of youth, families, volunteers, and partner agencies.
· Implements and coordinates the strategies and processes for daily programming to include, but not limited to, scheduling, recruitment, retention, data collection and reporting, behavior management, and registration.
· Serve as the key contact for parents and community agencies and facilitate events and programming that engage them as partners.
· CPR and AED Certification is required within 30 days of employment.
· Risk Management Requirements:
1. Adhere to policies related to boundaries with children.
2. Attend required abuse risk management training.
3. Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising children.
4. Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
5. Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.
