Associate Wellness Experience Executive

Job Description

Under the supervision of the Wellness Experience Executive and in harmony with the mission and purpose of the established policies and goals of the YMCA of the Virginia Peninsulas, the Associate Wellness Experience Executive is responsible for the overall daily operation of the wellness department of their assigned centers to include financial growth, membership engagement, retention and growth, and supervision of all wellness programs and staff. Support related chart or work and achieve the goals set forth in the strategic plan.

With an emphasis on ensuring the highest quality service to members and guests, the Associate Wellness Experience Executive will directly supervise Wellness Experience Directors at assigned centers and work closely with other center leaders in efforts to welcome, connect, support, and engage all members and staff.

The Associate Wellness Experience Executive will assist the association’s Wellness department by leading assigned projects.

Qualifications
  1. Bachelor’s degree in a wellness-related field or equivalent experience preferred.
  2. Y-USA Team Leader Certification (or equivalent) required within two years and must begin working towards certification within 6 months.
  3. Must have a minimum of three (3) years’ experience working in the Health & Wellness field, with certifications in the following: ACE, ACSM, NASM, or NSCA preferred in wellness and group exercise or personal training, preferred.
  4. Minimum two (2) years’ supervisory experience.
  5. Certification in CPR/First Aid/AED/O2 required within 60 days of hire.
  6. Must have ability to interact with people from all ethnic backgrounds, ages, and lifestyles.
  7. Must have experience in the development of programs.
  8. Must possess skills and knowledge in the development and implementation of a wide range of wellness classes and activities, budgeting, hiring, training and supervision of staff and volunteers, and member recruitment and retention.
  9. Knowledge of a wide variety of wellness equipment and experience in the maintenance and repair of wellness cardio and strength equipment preferred.
  10. Complete and maintain required trainings to include but not limited to: New Employee Orientation (NEO), Bloodborne Pathogens, Child Abuse Prevention (CAP), and Sexual Harassment upon hire and annually thereafter.
  11. Satisfactory completion of a criminal background check and Child Protective Services check.
Essential Functions
  1. Support the mission, vision and goals of the YMCA.
  2. Promote character development and the values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility, belonging, and faith in all program areas.
  3. Lead in a manner that advances our cause to strengthen the foundations of community through programs that focus on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
  4. Participate in the Annual Giving Campaign as assigned by supervisor and Center Executive Director.
  5. Participate in promoting YMCA membership through assisting in the recruiting and retaining of members utilizing retention tools available.
  6. Prepares statistical, analytical and narrative report regarding wellness programs and operation.

Program Development

  1. Review and evaluate all programs to determine member satisfaction and to ensure all programs meet quality standards.
  2. Organize, plan, promote, and schedule monthly programs to include small community groups and annual events for the wellness department to include group exercise.
  3. Maintain knowledge of current fitness trends and developments in the field of wellness and adult programming, and group exercise.
  4. Direct and perform wellness orientations and evaluations to ensure quality and safe programming for members and program participants.

Program Administration

  1. Maintain accurate staff records and ensure certifications are current for self and staff in order to meet/exceed association guidelines.
  2. Prepare annual budget for program areas and responsibilities and take appropriate action to correct variances.
  3. Responsible for the care, maintenance and storage of program supplies and equipment in accordance with the operating budget to include the wellness center, group exercise studios.
  4. Produce monthly department schedules for staff and programs. Coordinate group exercise classes with instructors. 
  5. Be proficient with Y-branding and creation of correctly Y-branded materials.
  6. Input staff schedules into payroll system. Verify staff timesheets and approve payroll each.
  7. Follow all association standard guidelines. 

Program Quality and Growth

  1. Drive program revenue through personal training and small group training opportunities.
  2. Drive member retention (especially first year) through engaging members in innovative wellness programing opportunities.
  3. Provide necessary tools and support related KPI’s and survey results and improving the member experience (action plans, interpretation of data, etc.).

Team Leadership

  1. Direct supervision of Wellness Experience Directors at assigned centers.
  2. Hires, develops motivates and retains a committed staff/volunteer team passionate about the YMCA’s mission and service to members for adult programing in wellness department.
  3. Holds regular one-on-one meetings with all staff members to learn about, gauge satisfaction, and provide career development coaching/training.
  4. Holds regular department staff meetings to train, coach, role-play, and provide updates on center and association initiatives.
  5. Provides leadership to the Center by participating in Center meetings and events, association leadership teams and task forces as assigned to increase communication, awareness and quality in the organization.
  6. Completes all job-related, supervisory, and other trainings as required.
  7. Ensures all members, guests, and program participants are in a safe environment and actively follow Center Emergency Operations Plan (EOP).
  8. Actively participates in center leadership activities (to include Supervisor on Duty and occasional special events).
  9. Carry out other related duties as deemed necessary by the wellness department.
