Director of Swim Lesson Development

The State College Branch of the YMCA of Centre County is currently seeking a full-time Director of Swim Lesson Development.
Job Description

Under the direction of the Aquatics Director, the Director of Swim Lesson Development will maintain a safety-first environment in managing the YMCA’s pool facilities.  The Director of Swim Lesson Development is responsible for overseeing and managing the YMCA's group, private, and adapted swim lessons; developing new programs that fulfill the need and interest with YMCA goal-oriented activities; and being responsible for the aquatics center cleanliness.  The Director of Swim Lesson Development will provide direct service to YMCA members and participants as well as teach and model characted development traits of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred with experience in the professional leadership of aquatic activities.
  • Requires a person who can create YMCA programs to meet the needs of the community. 
  • Must have experience in working with volunteers, program participants and parents.
Essential Functions
  • Promote and instill the safety and risk management practices at the YMCA.
  • Provide 30+ hours of direct service weekly to YMCA members and participants, primarily teaching private and group swim lessons but lifeguarding may also be required.
  • Plan, promote, and administer the specialty aquatic classes, swim lessons, training, and certification classes.  This includes supervision, development, scheduling and data entry.
  • Develop lesson plans and ensure the safety and quality of the swim lesson program.
  • Work with families to ensure proper class placement.
  • Active in all aspects of pool operation, including chemical management and ordering.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records, time sheets, and expense reports.
  • Cover staff hours as needed.
  • Conduct/assist with regularly scheduled department meetings, including in-service trainings and re-certifications as appropriate.  Hold no less than 2 in-services per year for swim lesson instructors for consistency, discipline, and safety purposes.
  • Hire, train, develop, and supervise all swim lesson staff.
  • Coordinate the department bulletin board and assist with department flyers.  
  • Be involved with the YMCA Annual Giving Campaign.
  • Other tasks as assigned by the Aquatics Director or Branch Executive Director. 
Required Certifications
  • Must possess and maintain current Lifeguard, CPR Pro, First Aid and Oxygen Administration certifications.  Pennsylvania Pesticide Applicators License is preferred but may be obtained within 90 days of hire.
  • Either YMCA or American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor certification preferred but may be obtained within 120 days of hire. 
  • Also recommended are YMCA Swim Instructor and Certified Pool Operator certifications.
  • Child Sexual Abuse Prevention training must be completed within the first 90 days of employment and every 3 years thereafter.
  • Mandated Reporter training must be completed within the first 90 days of employment and every 5 years thereafter.
  • ACT 139 Training for First Responders – Naloxone Training within the first 90 days of employment and every 2 years thereafter.
