What you’ll do

  • Hire, train, lead, and coach swim instructors and lifeguards ensuring adherence to safety standards.
  • Plan and manage swim lessons, lifeguard courses, and pool schedules
  • Serve as on-deck supervisor for swim lessons and fill coverage gaps as needed
  • Ensure compliance with YMCA standards, including emergency procedures
  • Track staff certifications, program records, and chemical logs
  • Identify opportunities to improve programs and increase participation
Qualifications
  • Lifeguard certified
  • Willingness to become a Lifeguard Instructor and Swim Lesson Instructor
  • Strong initiative and leadership skills; able to work independently
  • Passionate about water safety, teaching, and mentoring staff
  • Flexible schedule: 2 evenings/week required for swim lessons
Essential Functions

1) Staff Leadership & Development

·         Hire, train, supervise, and mentor swim instructors and lifeguards, including onboarding, performance management, scheduling, and payroll.

·         Plan and facilitate staff meetings, in-service trainings, and professional development opportunities.

2) Program Management & Operations

·         Plan, coordinate, and manage all Aquatics programs (swim lessons, lifeguard courses, private lessons, and pool usage).

·         Maintain schedules, attendance, rosters, and participant progress tracking.

·         Serve as on-deck supervisor for swim lessons.

3) Safety & Risk Management

·         Ensure compliance with YMCA and Red Cross safety standards.

·         Implement emergency procedures, administer first aid/CPR as needed, and maintain accurate incident reporting.

·         Conduct daily and weekly inspections of pool, equipment, and facilities.

4) Member & Community Relations

·         Maintain positive relationships with members, participants, and community partners.

·         Respond to inquiries, concerns, and class cancellations promptly.

5) Compliance & Administrative Duties

·         Track and maintain staff certifications, program records, chemical logs, and safety checklists.

·         Ensure implementation of Y-USA swim curriculum in all lessons.

6) Program Growth & Initiative

·         Identify opportunities to improve programs, increase participation, and enhance member experiences.

7) Other Duties

·         Perform additional tasks as assigned to support Aquatics department and YMCA mission.
