Job Description

The Wellness Coordinator, under the supervision of the Senior Health & Wellness Director, is responsible for assisting in the operation and supervision of the fitness center, youth & sports programs, and all related facilities to assure that the State College Branch of the YMCA of Centre County is fulfilling their goal of youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in kinesiology, exercise physiology, or related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years professional work experience, which includes leading group exercise classes.
Essential Functions
  • Perform a minimum of 40 hours of direct service per week.
  • Responsible for overseeing youth & sports programs; obtaining personal training clients, and performing personal training sessions; staff training/orientation; management and maintenance of the fitness center (including cleanliness); and performing new member orientations.
  • Enforce the rules of the fitness center and gymnasiums to ensure a positive and safe member experience for all.
  • Implement a full range of youth sports programs to meet the needs of the members and the surrounding community, including innovative means of serving the underserved and underprivileged segments of the community with a focus on middle and high school age youth.
  • Through efficient allocation of facility and human resources, contribute to membership growth and retention of the YMCA at large, always placing the needs of the Y members as a key priority.
  • Select, hire, train, evaluate, and retain staff and volunteers to provide appropriate services to the community as trainers, and instructors.  Enforce all personnel policies and guidelines in accordance with association policies. 
  • Create weekly work schedules for all employees you supervise as well as approve their timecards for bi-weekly payroll at the request of the Senior Health & Wellness Director.
  • Assure positive communication is occurring between staff and members.
  • Assist, manage, and monitor the wellness department budget to meet or exceed budget goals.
  • Participate as a vital part of the YMCA staff to provide exemplary services to the community.  This includes sharing responsibiilty as building supervisor as necessary, participation in special events, fundraising campaigns, and shared leadership duties as assigned.
  • Work with staff and volunteers to help plan, train, motivate, and oversee the campaign to reach the campaign goal.  Demonstrate sound campaign practices by implementing good practices and proven concepts.
  • Ensure that staff and volunteers obtain and maintain required clearances, certifications and training as stipulated by law and YMCA of Centre County policy.  Enforce and comply with all HR policies.
  • Assume equal responsibility for all housekeeping expectations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Certifications
  • Must possess a minimum of the YMCA Trainer Certification and YMCA Group Exercise Certification or a NSCA or ACSM certification.
  • CPR/First Aid/AED Certification must be kept current.
  • Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Training must be completed within the first 90 days of employment and every 3 years thereafter.
  • Mandated Reporter Training must be completed within the first 90 days of employment and every 5 years thereafter.
  • ACT 139 Training for First Responders - Naloxon Training within the first 90 days of employment and every 2 years thereafter.
