Maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming YMCA through facility maintenance, repairs, inspections, and event support.
Job Description

The YMCA of Yonkers is seeking a Facilities Operations Technician to support the daily maintenance, cleanliness, safety, and functionality of its six-story facility, which includes community program spaces, administrative offices, and a 75-unit Single Room Occupancy (SRO) residence.

This position performs a combination of maintenance, environmental services, inspections, event support, and work order completion to help ensure the YMCA remains safe, clean, and welcoming for residents, members, staff, and guests.

Working closely with the Superintendent and Building Engineer, the Facilities Operations Technician plays an important role in maintaining facility operations and supporting the YMCA's commitment to providing a safe and welcoming environment for the community.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Two to three years of experience in facilities maintenance, environmental services, property operations, or a related field preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical systems, carpentry, and general building repairs.
  • Ability to safely operate cleaning equipment, hand tools, and maintenance equipment.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical duties including bending, climbing, walking, and extended standing.
  • OSHA 10-Hour General Industry Safety Training preferred or willingness to obtain within 90 days.
  • Ability to obtain additional certifications as required.

 

Essential Functions

Building Maintenance & Operations

  • Perform daily inspections and facility walkthroughs to ensure safety, cleanliness, and proper building function.
  • Complete work orders related to plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC support, painting, minor repairs, and general maintenance.
  • Assist with preventive maintenance schedules and mechanical system upkeep.
  • Maintain fitness equipment and support routine inspections.
  • Coordinate with vendors and contractors as directed.
  • Document completed work within the Zoho Desk ticketing system.

Cleaning & Environmental Services

  • Perform routine and deep cleaning of program areas, restrooms, locker rooms, common spaces, hallways, stairwells, and residential common areas.
  • Sanitize high-touch surfaces and facility equipment.
  • Conduct trash removal, recycling collection, and supply restocking.
  • Respond to spills, leaks, floods, broken glass, and biohazard situations requiring immediate attention.
  • Support event setup, breakdown, and post-event cleaning.
  • Maintain YMCA standards of cleanliness and sanitation throughout the facility.

Safety & Emergency Response

  • Respond promptly to facility-related issues and maintenance emergencies.
  • Assist during alarm activations, water leaks, heating failures, plumbing issues, and other facility incidents.
  • Identify and report safety hazards and take corrective action when appropriate.
  • Participate in safety trainings, drills, and emergency preparedness activities.

Team Collaboration

  • Work collaboratively with the Superintendent and Building Engineer to support facility operations.
  • Participate in team meetings, safety briefings, and operational planning discussions.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and member-focused service while working in public-facing areas.

Other Duties as Assigned

  • Support special projects and additional responsibilities that contribute to the safety, functionality, and mission of the YMCA of Yonkers.

Required Certifications
  • OSHA 10-Hour General Industry Safety Training preferred or willingness to obtain within 90 days.
