Job Description
The HR Generalist serves as a trusted partner to YMCA centers by providing consultative support across employee relations, recruitment, compliance, compensation, and performance management. This role supports a positive, inclusive workplace culture, ensures adherence to employment laws and policies, and helps leaders effectively support their teams while advancing the YMCA of Middle Tennessee’s mission and values.

- Commitment to the YMCA’s mission and values
- 3+ years of progressive HR experience
- Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent experience
- Knowledge of employment/labor laws (TN preferred)
- Strong communication, judgment, and confidentiality skills
- Highly organized; able to manage multiple priorities independently
- HRIS and Microsoft Office proficiency
- Ability to travel locally and work a flexible schedule
- Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Paycom or similar HRIS
- HR certification (SHRM‑CP, PHR/SPHR)
- Multilingual skills
- Experience delivering HR training or process improvements
Essential Functions
- Serve as a primary HR partner to YMCA centers, providing guidance on employee relations, performance management, and corrective action.
- Act as the first point of contact for HR questions, delivering timely, practical solutions.
- Support compliance with employment laws and internal policies, including ADA, FMLA, and FLSA.
- Partner with leaders to promote employee engagement, retention, and an inclusive workplace culture.
- Support recruitment activities, including interviews, job classifications, and approval of offers.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for HRIS (Paycom), personnel actions, and basic reporting.
- Develop and deliver HR training and resources for leaders and staff.
- Maintain accurate records and ensure confidentiality of sensitive employee information.

Required Certifications
- New Hire Orientation Training – Required prior to the start of the first shift
- Paycom System Training – Must be completed within two (2) weeks of hire
