Job Description

Under the direction of the President & CEO the Chief Youth Development Officer provides executive leadership and strategic direction to the Youth Development Department of the New River YMCA. This includes direct oversight of the entire Youth Development Department.   The Chief Youth Development Officer ensures all youth development initiatives, from early learning to teen and family engagement, operate in alignment with the YMCA’s mission, policies, and goals. This position plays a vital role in expanding the YMCA’s impact through high-quality programs, community partnerships, and mission-driven leadership.  This role will be very hands on within the Early Learning Programs (Preschool and Full Day Childcare).

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Human Services, Child Development, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership experience in Youth Development or related nonprofit management.
  • Proven ability to manage multi-site youth programs, budgets, and teams effectively.
  • Demonstrated experience building community partnerships and collaborations.
  • Strong financial, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to inspire and lead others in alignment with the YMCA’s mission and values.
  • CPR, First Aid, AED, and Child Abuse Prevention certifications required within 60 days of hire.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
Essential Functions
  • Provides visionary leadership for all Youth Development programs, ensuring they align with the YMCA’s mission and strategic plan.
  • Supervises and supports directors overseeing Preschool, Early Learning Center, Family Programs, School Age Programs, Food Services, and related youth initiatives.
  • Leads the development and implementation of innovative and inclusive programs for children, teens, and families that foster growth, safety, and belonging.
  • Oversees compliance with all state licensing, CACFP, and YMCA of the USA standards.
  • Builds and maintains strong partnerships with schools, community agencies, and local organizations to strengthen program impact.
  • Develops annual budgets for all Youth Development departments and monitors financial performance to achieve revenue and impact goals.
  • Provides coaching, guidance, and professional development for all youth development leadership staff.
  • Leads evaluation and improvement initiatives to ensure high-quality programs and exceptional participant experiences.
  • Collaborates with the CEO and leadership team to advance the YMCA’s mission through strategic planning and association-wide initiatives.
  • Represents the YMCA in community meetings, conferences, and events related to youth and family services.
  • Supports association philanthropy efforts through relationship-building, storytelling, and participation in fundraising events.
  • Maintains a flexible work schedule to include evenings, weekends, and special events as necessary.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by the CEO to further the YMCA mission.
