Aquatics Director

The Granite YMCA is seeking an experienced aquatics professional to join our team as Aquatics Director at the YMCA of Concord.

This role oversees all aquatics programming, budgeting, and staff leadership for a four-lane indoor lap pool, a current team of approximately 40 staff, full-time Aquatics Coordinator and a part-time Head Swim Team Coach The ideal candidate brings strong leadership experience, a commitment to quality service, community engagement skills, and a focus on risk management in all operations.

Qualifications

To thrive in this role, candidates should bring a background of progressive aquatics experience including management of team members and the ability to successfully prioritize and respond to a variety of tasks such as programs and emergency response measures

  • Candidates should have a minimum of four years’ experience leading Aquatics teams and/or related programs
  • Current Lifeguard Certification and current First Aid/CPR for the Professional Rescuer (Y Certification preferred)
  • Current Lifeguard Instructor Certification, or ability to become certified within six months of hire
  • Current Swim Lessons Instructor Certification (Y Certification Preferred)
  • Current Swim Lessons Instructor Trainer Certification or the ability to become certified within 12 months of hire
  • CPO certification is preferred but not required
  • Candidates should bring experience and an understanding of administrative and human relations skills as they would apply to an Aquatics department
  • A bachelor’s degree is recommended, though not required
Essential Functions
  • Recruit, hire, train, develop and manage a staff team to meet the needs of the department and branch
  • Oversee team development to meet personal, branch and Association goals
  • Develop, oversee and implement aquatics programming, to include swim lessons, swim team facilitation and specialty programming
  • Oversee daily pool operations and scheduling to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health & safety regulations and best practices
  • Ensure proper maintenance of pool and related areas in collaboration with the Facilities Director
  • Manage the administrative needs of the Aquatics and Swim Team department(s), to include staff scheduling, program development, member communication, supply ordering, and maintenance of records
  • Manage the department budget meeting operational goals
  • Identify and facilitate areas of risk and implement safety practices related to Emergency Action Procedures
