The Kirk Family YMCA is seeking a dynamic, cause driven leader to lead our Aquatics Department.
Job Description

To develop, implement, coordinate, supervise and evaluate activities that relate to the aquatic department.

Qualifications

A High school degree or its equivalent with a bachelor’s degree preferred. A minimum of 2 years of Aquatics experience necessary. Project management, time management and multi-tasking skills necessary. Proficiency in computer skills with Microsoft office preferred. Previous experience in water safety, water exercise, swim lessons, pool management, and swim team operation is essential. Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills are necessary. Prior experience supervising or leading others is desired. Must have current YMCA/Red Cross/Ellis Lifeguard certification, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED and First Aid certification. 

Physical Requirements

Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time, and use a computer, telephone and related business equipment are necessary to this position. Must be able to communicate effectively with others. Must be able to be in the water and/or on the pool deck for extended periods of time and remain alert with no lapses of consciousness. Verbal communication and the ability to project voice across a distance required. Must be able to hear noises and distress signals and respond appropriately. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds with assistance and handle pool chemicals as needed.

Essential Functions
  1. Interpret, communicate, and promote Y mission, goals, and objectives to department employees, volunteer leaders, members, and the community.
  2. Support branch/department initiatives related to membership retention and Annual Giving goals.
  3. Build and maintain positive relationships with members and staff.
  4. Establish and evaluate aquatic emergency action procedures including training staff, planning effective communication systems and preventive action steps.
  5. Promote, administer, and lead in development and implementation of aquatic programs and services.
  6.  Assure adequate lifeguard and program coverage for all shifts for all pool facilities and programs. Covers shifts when staff are absent or additional staff is required.
  7. Responsible for ensuring maintaining ideal pool water chemical balance, temperature, and cleanliness in all aquatic facilities including deck and locker room areas.  Responsible for cleaning, backwashing, mechanical systems and vacuuming pool. 
  8.  Responsible for all aquatic rentals and staffing aquatic special events including, but, not limited to swim meets, birthday parties, SCUBA and baptisms.
  9. Responsible for the development and implementation of the department budget.  Authorizes department expenditures within allotted budget; provides budget reports in a timely manner including budget preparation and monthly income/expense controls and justifications.
  10. Supervise and manage all branch aquatic programs.
  11. Maintain a high quality of standards, adhering to or surpassing the YMCA of Virginia’s Blue Ridge aquatic standards.
  12. Responsible for the operations of the aquatic department: train, schedule, supervise and evaluate all aquatic staff ensuring all aquatic and safety policies are followed and required certifications are up to date.
  13. Promote, administer, and lead in the development and implementation of programs for special populations and services.
  14. Develop and implement program of certification, training and in-service for all staff in assigned area. Conduct trainings and audits.
  15. Enhance the experience of aquatic program participants by facilitating and initiating positive programs and good communication. 
  16. Provide leadership, guidance, and supervision to the branch Swim Team to ensure a high-quality program.  Serve as Swim Team Coach as necessary to meet the goals and objectives of the YMCA.
  17. Promote, administer, and lead in the development and implementation of Y-Splash and Safety Around Water programs. Maintain communication and partnership with Roanoke City and County Schools.
  18. Oversee operation and programming of outdoor pool during summer months. Maintain communication and partnership with City of Roanoke.
  19. All other duties as assigned.
Required Certifications

Swim Instructor, Water Fitness, Swim Team and Oxygen Administration (O2) certifications desired.
