Job Description

Under the direction and supervision of the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and in accordance with the mission and purpose of the YMCA, the Director of School Age Child Care is responsible for oversight and direct supervision of the School Age Child Care Program to assure safe nurturing and enrichment programs within our BASE program in accordance with the philosophy and mission of the Hamilton Area YMCA as well as state and local licensing requirements.

Qualifications

A.  Education and/or Experience

  • Experience in budget development/monitoring
  • Two (2) years previous work experience in a supervisor role
  • Director/Departmental leadership: 2 years (Preferred)
  • Bachelor’s degree (Preferred)

Essential Functions

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Supervises Assistant Directors of School Age Care Team to assure a safe environment for children by conducting regular facility audits, reporting/resolving potential hazards immediately.
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of the physical, intellectual, emotional and social development overall curriculum plan for School Age Care Programs.
  • Implements methods of effectively using Assistant Directors, coordinators, supervisors, site assistants to create an efficient and resourceful work environment.
  • Assists in the overall planning and supervision of special events for School Age Child Care programs
  • Works with Assistant Directors of School Age Care Team to conduct regular visits to all school age programs minimally 2 times per month.  Monitors Microsoft Form to document visit and assessment of visit.
  • Works with Assistant Directors of School Age Care Team and Director of Recruitment and Staff Development to develop strategies on recruitment, hiring, training, and retaining quality childcare staff.
  • Plan and run staff training for all childcare staff.
  • Assess and collaborate with appropriate staff to respond to all risk management issues. Complete all incident reports within 24 hours.
  • Maintain administrative detail of all related programs and issues of program logistics and scheduling. Responsible for completion of paperwork such as schedules, inventories, lesson plans, participant and staff evaluations, and participant surveys.
  • Maintain accurate statistics on childcare programs.
  • Works with appropriate staff to assist in assuring payments and reconciliations are accurate.
  • Develops and monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
  • Works with Marketing to conduct appropriate marketing strategies as needed to promote or educate parents on the general community about childcare programs, child safety and/or to meet enrollment objectives as established in the approved budget.
  • Respond to parent, participant, and staff needs in a timely and professional manner.
  • Participate in annual fundraising and special events.
  • Attends all staff meetings, in-service trainings and professional development programs as needed and as directed.
  • Effectively communicates information to all program staff members and parents of enrolled children
  • Works with Director of Camp and YD to form and regularly cultivate a childcare age parent committee
  • Comply with all NJ State Licensing standards.
  • Performs all duties in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or as necessary. Remains flexible and adaptable in work schedules and work assignments as defined by departmental and organizational needs.
