Job Description

The Aquatics Director is a full-time, benefits eligible position that will develop, organize, and implement high quality, member focused YMCA aquatic programs and services.  

Qualifications
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and ecomonic segments of the community.
  • Excellent leadership skills with supervision of daily duties related to an indoor pool.
  • Degree in related field or commensurate field experience preferred.
  • CPR, First Aid, YSL or WSI, and Lifeguard certifications preferred.
  • YSL Instructor or WSI Trainer (attained within 6 months)
  • Lifeguard Trainer (attained within 1 year)
  • Certified Pool Operator (attained within 12-18 months)
Essential Functions
  1. Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives.  Establishes new program activities and expands programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.  Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
  2. Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed.  Reviews and evaluates staff performance.  Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.  Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.
  3. Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.
  4. Conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pools.  Secures and schedules pool facilities.  Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.
  5. Conducts certification courses in swim instruction, lifeguarding, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, and First Aid.
  6. Creates and schedules swim lessons, water fitness classes and special events.
  7. Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
  8. Develops and monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives.  Maintains inventory and recommends purchases as needed.
  9. Assists in YMCA fundraising activities and special events.
  10. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.  Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
  11. Assists with committee or task-force projects as assigned.
  12. Compiles program statistics.  Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in programs.
  13. Collaborates with CEO to ensure the safe and responsible operation of the Y including rotating responsibilities for overall facility supervision and program coverage abd actively participates in branch philanthropy efforts, special events, meetings and training sessions.
  14. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Certifications
  • CPR for the Professional Rescuer

  • YSL or WSI

  • Lifeguard
