Job Description

The Director of Development is responsible for leading, managing, and implementing a comprehensive development strategy that supports the YMCA’s mission and long-term strategic goals. This role advances philanthropy across the association by cultivating meaningful relationships with donors, stewarding community partners, coordinating annual and capital campaigns, and strengthening a culture of giving among staff, volunteers, and board leadership.

Qualifications

1.          Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 5 years experience in resource development with a direct focus on fundraising. 

2.          Fund-raising experience in capital campaigns, annual giving campaigns and special events.

3.          Familiarity with the principles of annual campaign organization and marketing.

4.          Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from donors, volunteers, senior leaders, board members and the general public.

5.          Proven experience in cultivating and soliciting donations.

6.          Strong customer relationship skills and public speaking experience.

7.          Excellent written communication skills.

8.          Must be highly organized

9.          Experience in working closely with volunteers and in staffing volunteer committees/events.

10.        Understanding of and enthusiasm for the mission of the YMCA.

11.        YMCA or other non-profit experience preferred.

Essential Functions

1.          Partner with branch leadership to ensure coordinated campaign efforts across all YMCA locations.

2.          Lead the planning and implementation of annual giving, major gifts, endowment, corporate sponsorships, and capital campaigns.

3.          Cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of donors at all giving levels.

4.          Oversee donor stewardship and recognition programs that reinforce long-term engagement.

5.          Recruits volunteer leadership for overall annual/capital campaign and develops an effective, comprehensive campaign program. 

6.          Data management of annual gifts and conducts regular analysis and reporting of campaign progress.

7.          Maintains timely and appropriate acknowledgements of campaign gifts. 

8.          Assists with prospect/donor correspondence.

9.          Assists in proposal development, develops grant proposals and donor requests.  (Applicants selected for interview must provide a sample grant that has been funded to be considered.)

10.        Works with operations and branch directors to ensure all grant-funded programs have strong programmatic and outcome-based monitoring systems. 

11.        Track grant reporting requirements and ensure compliance and timely submission.  

12.        Work collaboratively with senior leadership and Marketing team to ensure clear and compelling donor messaging.

13.        Serve as an ambassador of the YMCA in the community, strengthening relationships with civic, business, and philanthropic partners.

14.        Assists in planning and implementation of special events, projects and committees when needed.

15.        Performs other duties as assigned.

Salary is negotiable based on qualifications.
