      Under the direction of the CEO, the Director of Membership & Program Development will manage all aspects membership/marketing and asses program needs of the Bloomsburg Area YMCA in accordance with the mission, goals and policies of the association.
The Director of Membership & Program Development must understand and be committed to the YMCA mission and its program operating principles. The director should understand the basic concepts and working of a volunteer led organization, in particular, the nature of the YMCA as a partnership between volunteers and staff.
Two to three years’ experience in business management, office management, or customer service leadership is preferred.
Bachelor’s degree in human services, recreation, business, or a related field is highly preferred.  
Strong management and decision-making skills including the ability to influence, engage, and lead others to new levels of effectiveness. 
Ability to coach, mentor, relate and listen to team members. 
Exceptional written and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate with a diverse group of staff and clients.
Demonstrated computer proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, and database systems. 
Self-motivated, results driven, detail oriented, and adaptable. 
Able to exercise good judgment, discretion, and confidentiality. 
Must submit to and successfully pass a criminal history background check. 
Must understand, support, and be able to articulate the YMCA’s Mission and core values. 
Completion of necessary YMCA specific certifications.
Membership Growth & Retention
Lead strategies to attract new members and retain existing ones.
Oversee onboarding and orientation processes to ensure strong first impressions.
Implement engagement plans to deepen member involvement (events, special initiatives).
Track membership trends, satisfaction, and demographics to inform outreach.
Partner with marketing/communications to promote membership benefits.
Program Development & Oversight
Assess community needs and trends to develop innovative programs (youth, teens, adults, seniors, families). Work with Childcare, Youth and Community Resource Hub Director to assess those needs and develop programs/services.
Ensure programs align with the YMCA’s mission and strategic goals.
Support program directors/coordinators with planning, evaluation, and improvement.
Establish program standards, safety guidelines, and quality assurance measures.
Monitor participation, outcomes, and community impact.

Build and maintain relationships with schools, community groups, and partner agencies.
Represent the YMCA in local networks, coalitions, and events.
Seek collaboration opportunities to expand reach and resources.
Support volunteer recruitment and engagement in programs and membership activities.
Marketing & Communications Support
Partner with marketing to highlight success stories and promote programs.
Provide content ideas (photos, testimonials, program highlights) for campaigns.
Ensure messaging around membership and programs is consistent and compelling
Mission Advancement: Models and teaches the Y’s values. Ensure a high level of service with a commitment to changing lives. Provides staff and volunteers with orientation, training, development, and recognition. Cultivate relationships to support fund-raising.
Collaboration: Champions inclusion activities, strategies, and initiatives. Build relationships to create small communities. Empathetically listens and communicates for understanding
when negotiating and dealing with conflict. Effectively shapes communications to the appropriate audience. Provides staff with feedback, coaching, guidance, and support. 
Operational Effectiveness: Provides others with frameworks for making decisions. Conducts prototypes to support the launching of programs and activities. Develop plans and manage best practices through engagement of the team. Effectively creates and manages budgets. Holds staff accountable for high-quality results using a formal process to measure progress.

Utilizes non-threatening methods to address sensitive issues and inappropriate behavior or performance.
