Job Description

This position supports the work of the Channel Islands YMCA, a leading nonprofit charitable organization committed to strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Executive Director position at the YMCA oversees one service area and stewards the Y’s cause, promoting and protecting the brand and reputation as a global, inclusive organization within the community. The Executive Director oversees the operations and participates in volunteer and staff development, financial development, and collaboration with community stakeholders.

Qualifications

The following are the minimum qualifications that an individual needs in order to successfully
perform the duties and responsibilities of this position. Please note that the minimum 
qualifications may vary based upon the department size and/or geographic location.

Education and Certification(s):
• Must be at least 21 years old
• Bachelor's Degree required
• 5+ years’ experience in related management role
• Complete required certifications within 30 days of hire
•  Complete all required Branch and Position specific trainings as required within two weeks of 
hire


Skills and Abilities:
•  Ability to obtain a criminal record clearance
•  Ability to participate in the DMV Pull Program

Essential Functions

• Oversee a YMCA branch and service area
•  Maintain a diverse branch board that actively support the Y’s goals and strategic plans. 
Recruit, selects, and develop diverse volunteers for the branch board. Clarify and reinforce the 
division of roles and responsibilities between corporate boards, branch boards, staff, and general 
volunteers
•  Build bridges within the communities so that all segments of society have access to the Y
•  Effectively communicate the community benefit and the Y’s impact for all stakeholders (e.g., 
staff,volunteers, members, community leaders)
•  Develop positive working and collaborative relationships with other organizations, businesses, 
and governmental entities
•  Manage the budgeting process so that resources are devoted to top priorities and strategic 
objectives. Ensure operating budgets meet or exceed targets
•  Develop and direct high quality member engagement strategies and programs which support branch 
and association goals and strategies. Establish plans for the expansion of programs and services, 
in harmony with overall YMCA objectives and the leadership team
•  Direct the financial development activities of each branch including direct asks, grant writing, 
and special events
•  Oversee risk management strategies and preventative practices. Ensures regulatory compliance
•  Direct branch strategic planning efforts and develops the annual operating plan for each branch
• Oversee the hiring, training, development, and supervision of staff
•  Foster a climate of innovation to develop member-focused programs which support the Y mission, 
goals, and strategies
•  Address Specific Problem Areas: Identify and correct areas in which the branch is 
under-performing and organize task forces to address these issues
•  Serve on community and association committees, tasks forces, and boards to foster internal and external relationships
•  Ensures the safety and maintenance of high-quality facilities, grounds, and equipment
• All other duties assigned
