Salary: $23.00 - $25.26 Hourly

The West Side YMCA is seeking an Aquatics Coordinator who will assist the Aquatics Director in providing direction and leadership to the Aquatics Department and following all YMCA and Department of Health aquatics standards to maintain safety for all aquatic programs in and around the swim area. The Aquatics Coordinator will serve as a model to promote and demonstrate professional demeanor (uniform and positive attitude) to other aquatics staff.

Qualifications
  • Associate's degree or equivalent work experience required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience supervising Lifeguards and Swim Instructors.
  • Must be at least 21 years old or older.
  • Current YMCA Swim Lessons certification or equivalent (must attain YMCA LG certification within 90 days of hire).
  • Current YMCA Lifeguard certification or equivalent (must attain YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor certification within 120 days of hire).
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS), First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen certifications.
  • Demonstrate swim strokes, lifeguard rescues, and BLS/FA/EO skills.
  • Maintain certification level of physical and mental readiness.
  • Responsible for recertification before expiration.
  • Certifications to attain within 180 days of hire: YMCA Aquatics Supervisor (YLINK) certificate.
  • Certifications to attain within 1 year of hire: PHTA Certified Pool Operator or equivalent, YMCA Introduction to
  • Fiscal Management, YMCA Lifeguard Instructor, and YMCA Supervision certificates.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Essential Functions
  • Follow YMCA Lifeguard Rescue Ready and YMCA Swim Instructor Ready protocols.
  • Attend mandatory in-service training monthly and assist the Aquatics Director in running the in-service training.
  • Know and understand the facility's Emergency Action Plan and Emergency Evacuation Routes.
  • Enforce aquatics safety rules consistently and fairly.
  • Maintain positive relationships with members and staff. Show members and colleagues respect by listening carefully and showing empathy when dealing with difficult situations.
  • Assist the Aquatics Director with staffing, recruiting, hiring, training, and evaluating Lifeguards, Swim Instructors, and Water Exercise Instructors.
  • Assist the Aquatics Director with scheduling staff and programs.
  • Assist with developing, implementing, tracking, and controlling the department budget in accordance with Branch and Association Guidelines.
  • Assist with reviewing program capacity and scheduling regarding efficiency and revenue.
  • Adhere to Association Aquatic Safety Standards and Guidelines.
  • Act as a Manager on Duty (MOD) for the branch.
  • Actively participate in training sessions, designated meetings, and special events.
