Under the supervision of the SVP of Operations and in harmony with the mission and purpose of the established policies and goals of the YMCA, the Wellness Experience Executive, “Executive,” shall be responsible for the leadership and overall operations of the Association’s wellness and community health initiatives with a focus on member retention, engagement, wellness programs, innovation, and health strategies. With a focus on the health of YMCA members, and members in our community, the incumbent shall be responsible for leading a dynamic, outcome-driven portfolio of programs and services designed to address health disparities, improve health education, and address chronic disease support throughout the Virginia Peninsulas.
The Executive shall develop and maintain relationships with public health, health equity, and other community partners to expand wellness efforts within the community and achieve goals of the strategic plan and our communities.
1. Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience preferred. Preferred field of study: exercise physiology, health education, health behavior, public health or related field. Y-USA Multi-Team Leader Certification (or equivalent) required within two years and must begin working towards certification within 6 months.
2. Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in program management in wellness and/or public health required.
3. Minimum of three years’ experience managing multiple program locations preferred.
4. Approved personal trainer, strength training, specialty wellness, and group exercise certifications may be required based on the needs of the association.
5. Ability to direct total operations through strategic planning, new program innovation, program improvement, organizational design and strategic hiring, staff member professional growth, operational execution, effective delegation and budget development and management.
6. Highly motivated with the consistent ability to meet or exceed goals.
7. Ability to quickly build rapport and develop effective relationships with members, community partners, and others to achieve goals.
8. Consistently self-driven and goal-oriented with the ability to set effective team and individual goals and take ownership for results.
9. Demonstrated ability to multi-task and adapt to changing contexts and priorities.
10. Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills with the ability to identify and leverage relevant data to use in planning and decision-making.
11. Ability to effectively communicate with staff members at all levels.
12. Certification in CPR/ First Aid/AED/02 required within 60 days of hire.
13. Complete and maintain required trainings to include: New Employee Orientation (NEO), Bloodborne Pathogens, Child Abuse Prevention (CAP), and Sexual Harassment.
14. Satisfactory completion of a criminal background check, credit check and Child Protective Services check.
1. Supports the mission, vision and goals of the YMCA.
2. Promotes character development and the values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility and faith in all program areas.
3. Actively participates in association task forces, committees and/or other groups to promote center unity through association policies, strategies and goals.
4. Promotes and participates in YMCA fundraising efforts to include Annual Campaign, Capital and United Way campaigns. 5. Ensures outstanding customer/member service through Association quality guidelines.
6. Recruits, trains and builds strong staff and volunteer teams and ensures their success through an effective performance management/appraisal process.
7. Develops, manages and monitors annual budget, making revisions as necessary to meet or exceed budget guidelines.
8. Prepares statistical, analytical and narrative reports regarding programs and operations of the center as needed.
Safety and Risk Management
1. Ensures all Y wellness and association standards are implemented and followed.
2. Ensures all wellness staff members are properly trained and prepared for emergency situations. To include in-service 3. training requirements are being met and risk management procedures and protocols are being followed.
4. Ensures staff teams have systems in place to monitor staff member certifications and expirations.
5. Ensures staff teams have systems in place to ensure proper maintenance of wellness equipment is regularly managed.
Program Quality and Growth
1. Responsible for wellness initiatives to include specialty healthy living programs, personal training, group exercise, wellness floor operations, and overall member retention, program growth and quality for all centers.
2. Focus on driving strategic wellness program growth through monthly and annual goals. Meeting/exceeding related wellness budget targets.
3. Drive program revenue through personal training and small group training opportunities.
4. Drive first year and long-term member retention through engaging members in innovative wellness programming opportunities. 5. Provide support to wellness teams in maintaining high quality member experiences throughout all wellness programming.
6. Provide necessary tools and support-related KPIs and survey results and improving the member experience (action plans, interpretation of data, etc).
7. Advocate for association-wide standards and is a source for innovative ways to grow wellness programs and enhance the member experience.
Team Leadership
1. Actively guide team towards ongoing recruitment, training, and development of personal trainers, group exercise instructors and wellness floor coaches.
2. Serves as the Wellness Cabinet Chair and manages the related chart of work.
3. Creates, develops, and monitors staff member development plans and training opportunities that promote career growth within the Y.
Community Health
1. Functions as an expert in Evidence-Based Health Intervention (EBHI) programs and serves as a trusted advisor and partner to center leaders.
2. Conducts or identifies regular market research and prepares statistical, analytical, and narrative reports regarding strategies to achieve objectives established in our strategic plan and operating priorities.
3. Builds capacity for and ensures the successful delivery of EBHI programs in a manner that complies with, and or exceeds, published standards of YUSA and other applicable organizations.
4. Works with Vice President of Operations and other Association leaders to serve as staff liaison to the Health Equity Committee.
5. In collaboration with center leaders and volunteers, identifies opportunities for innovation, growth, and advancement that addresses community needs.
6. Coordinates cross-departmental workflow between all program groups and centers to ensure a streamlined flow of information relating to services provided, outcomes, and volunteer opportunities.
7. Maintains the functions of the bus to be available for all community outreach opportunities that meet the strategic focus of the Y in Motion.
