Job Description

The position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, health living and social responsibility. Head Age Group Coach delivers the highest quality swim team by assisting the Head Coach and Associate Head Coach in planning and development of the Age Group program that follows the standards set forth by the YMCA of the USA.

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree is required. Head Age Group Coach may work towards a degree while employed.

• Must be willing to fulfill all swim team responsibilities to the best of the employee’s ability.

• Must be able to take direction and use supervisor’s instruction to continually increase their knowledge and experience in competitive coaching.

• Must accept, demonstrate, and teach the YMCA Character Development Value’s of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility throughout their assigned swim team group.

Essential Functions

1. Provide a safe and supportive environment for all swim team participants.

2. Work directly with the Head Coach and Associate Head Coach to plan and program the Competitive Swim Team.

3. Assist in planning for seasonal as well as long term goals for the swim team as well as their specific practice groups.

4. Lead Coach for Yellow and Purple practice groups.

5. Manage all aspects of the YSSC Age Group Program. Including staffing, schedule, curriculum, and any meets offered to YSSC swimmers.

6. Directly supervise Head Developmental Coach and Age Group Coaching Staff.

7. Provide mentoring and professional development opportunities to the Age Group and Developmental Coaching Staff.

8. Provide parent/swimmer communication through phone, email, and website. Updates will be provided on a regular basis.

9. Assist in all aspects on meet management. Including entries, setup, and breakdown.

10. Provide support to all swim team staff members and volunteers.

11. Attend all staff meetings and training opportunities as requested.

12. Document daily attendance and training plans.

13. Roster and retention planning for all age group training groups.

14. Assist the Associate Head Coach with annual recruiting drive with local summer league teams. Including swimming clinics and meet visits.

15. Plan and provide opportunities for placement/tryout swims for new swimmers throughout the year.

16. Compile YSSC Meet Entries. Ensure entries are accurate; Submit to Meet Host, Create check requests and ensure prompt payment of fees to meet hosts

17. Develop and track swimmer recognition programs

18. Responsible for maintaining and updating YSSC Bulletin Board

19. Create and coordinate apparel orders and parent orders

20. Volunteer for appointments with SC Swimming, USA Swimming, YMCA Swimming, ASCA or other professional groups

21. Flexible and additional hours as needed.

22. Member of MOD rotation

23. Performs other duties as assigned & helps with Annual Campaign
