Job Description

Under the direction of the CEO, this position is responsible for providing strategic leadership, vision, and direction for all health and wellness initiatives across the La Porte County Family YMCA. This role ensures consistency, excellence, and innovation in the delivery of wellness programs and services across all branches, while aligning efforts with the YMCA’s mission to build a healthier La Porte County. 

Qualifications
  • Works effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, abilities, opinions, and perspectives.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must maintain a current motor vehicle license and an acceptable driving record that meets YMCA standards.
  • Must have basic expertise in common office software, including Microsoft Office and Outlook.
  • YMCA Team Leader certification preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree required—preferred majors: Exercise Physiology, Physical Education, Public Health, or related fields.
  • Five years of progressively responsible experience in program management in wellness and/or public health. 
  • 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience with staff management and supervision, fiscal management, program growth and retention, and community relationship building.
  • Demonstrated community involvement and resource development experience.
  • Demonstrated success in building strong partnerships effectively among a wide variety of stakeholders (physicians, public health officials, employers, community-based organization, and health seeker(s) to advance a common cause.
  • Ability to direct programs through supervising volunteers and staff, development and monitoring of budgets, marketing and public relations, program development, and fundraising. Must exhibit excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Required training:Within 30 days of hire:     Child Abuse Prevention (West Bend online).
    Within 30 days of hire:     Bloodborne Pathogens (West Bend online).
    Within 30 days of hire:     CPR/AED and First Aid
    Within 90 days of hire:     Listen First and Y Welcome
Essential Functions
  • Fulfill Y’s mission to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all.
  • Promote and incorporate the YMCA’s core values and mission into all aspects of the job in the community.
  • Develop and implement wellness programming strategies based on the association's strategic plan and goals.
  • Drive annual innovation in the YMCA wellness and group exercise program offering that is sustained, impactful, and enhanced in future years.
  • Develop, manage, and monitor assigned operating budgets and meet or exceed budget targets.
  • Assist Association leadership in the oversight and evaluation of wellness programs to increase member engagement and retention and provide recommendations on best practices and trends.
  • Serve as a resource to the YMCA branches to drive excellence in all aspects of health and wellness operations and programs/services to members and staff.
  • Serve as a liaison, ambassador, and advocate for the YMCA’s chronic disease prevention and management programs within public health, physician, and payer communities.
  • Attend community meetings on behalf of the YMCA and maintain appropriate relationships with area organizations and community leaders. 
  • Track and report key health & wellness goals – group exercise attendance, evidence-based program attendance, personal training, and health initiative programs.
  • Analyze program data to ensure outcome management for health partners, payors, and, when appropriate, Medicare and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Creates and submits all required reports. 
  • Directly supervise the health & fitness team including interviewing, hiring, and training staff, planning, assigning, and directing work, conducting continuing education, and managing performance.
  • Oversee fitness equipment maintenance and purchases for the Association.
  • Assist in teaching CPR, First Aid, and AED training for the YMCA staff and community.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Participate as an active team member for overall advancement of the Association.

Required Certifications
  • Certification in CPR Instructor within the first year of the employment.
  • Current certification from an NCCA accredited organization in either Personal Training or Group Exercise within first year of employment.
