General Functions
Under the direction of the CEO, the Operations Director oversees daily operations, including programming, staff, and facility management leadership. This role is responsible for maintaining high operational standards, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment, and delivering exceptional customer service. The Operations Director promotes a culture of growth, revenue generation, and fiscal accountability.
Qualifications
Know-How
This position requires a strong understanding of daily operations, YMCA policies, membership practices, and organizational structure. The ideal candidate will possess effective communication, time management, conflict resolution skills, and the ability to enforce policies confidently.
- A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in fields such as management, operations, or sports management is preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of progressively responsible experience in health/wellness operations, retail management, or multi-program management with fiscal responsibility.
- Demonstrated leadership managing multiple departments and staff across salaried, full-time, and part-time roles.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and adaptability to new technologies are required.
Essential Functions
Principal Activities
- Supervises key staff and oversees staff performance through coaching, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions.
- Oversees operations and programming in line with YMCA policies and procedures.
- Monitors financial objectives by managing the budget, tracking expenses, analyzing variances, and initiating corrective actions.
- Recruits, trains, and retains staff; supports succession planning and staff development.
- Ensures high levels of member satisfaction across departments.
- Implements and maintains effective staff schedules and ensures collaboration between departments.
- Analyzes member usage reports to improve service and performance outcomes.
- Oversees building security and facility operations in line with established safety protocols.
- Ensures clean, safe, and well-maintained facilities and equipment, following policies for safety and sanitation, including direct supervision of housekeeping staff.
- Upholds YMCA brand standards and supports marketing efforts.
- Enforces YMCA safety policies; ensures staff certifications are current and documentation is complete.
- Guides staff development to improve organizational performance.
- Assists in departmental budgeting and achievement of financial goals.
- Develops member engagement strategies to increase participation and retention.
- Plans for program and service growth aligned with YMCA goals.
- Builds and maintains strong relationships with stakeholders and community partners.
- Conducts program audits for quality assurance and compliance.
- Serves as Manager on Duty as needed.
- Supports community engagement and fundraising events.
- Provides regular operational updates to the CEO.
- Ensures effective communication and day-to-day operations.
- Performs other duties as assigned by management.
