Associate Program Director

Greater Somerset County YMCA is seeking an Associate Program Director to suport our Somerset Hills Branch.

Under the direction of the Senior Director of Youth Development, the Associate Program Director will be responsible for managing select activities associated with our Arts & Humanities, Scouting, Youth and Family events, and Teen Programs at our Somerset Hills YMCA, including the administration of these programs to ensure that they create opportunities for youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.  This position is fully on-site. 

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Education, Recreation, or related field.  

Three-plus years’ experience directing youth programming with a focus on School Age Child Care and Summer Camp. 

Superior leadership and interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with staff and interact with membership. 

Supervisory experience a plus.  

Must have flexibility in work assigned schedule and expectations to work evenings and some weekends.  

Excellent organizational, member engagement, staff development, administrative and communication skills.

Has solid working knowledge of Microsoft Word/Excel as well as good administrative skills.

Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification, or obtain within 30 days of hire. 

Bloodborne Pathogens, Child Abuse Prevention, Sexual Harassment and other program-specific courses.

Essential Functions

Arts & Humanities

Supervises all assigned Arts & Humanities instructors and oversees day-to-day program administration.

Hire, train, onboard and coach assigned Arts & Humanities instructors.

Assist in the creation of new and innovative programs in response to community and member needs

Manage program registration process & supplies 

Manage outstanding payments and review monthly draft process programs

Collaborate with other departments regarding member/guest program satisfaction.

Camp – Enrichment & Performing Arts 

Supervises all camp counselors in assigned camp unit and assists the counselors in daily camp operation.

Review and submit end of year evaluations for all seasonal staff

Supervises all branch camp counselors and assists the counselors in daily camp operation.

Engage as leader with camp software system interfacing with parent portal and providing support and reports.

Plan weekly special events and camp activities. 

Participates in all camp staff hiring and training sessions/meetings prior to and during camp.

Help staff prepare lesson plans for their groups.

Work cooperatively with staff in increasing their leadership capabilities.

Acquaint campers with rules, activities, daily schedule and traditions of camp.

Ensure that all equipment and supplies are being properly used, maintained, and returned to their place 

Scouting Programs (Girl Scouts)

Coordinate all aspects of the Girl Scout Patch program including booking workshops, purchasing supplies, and recruitment events.

Provide general administrative support to Girl Scout Patch program and event registration including creating and maintaining a participant database, copying and distributing flyers.

Develop value add programs and appreciation initiatives for the program that honor their commitment and participation with the Y.

Serves as main point of contact for the program and its participants.

Scouting Programs (Adventure Guides)

Coordinate all aspects of the Adventure Guides program including booking trips, purchasing supplies, and recruitment events.

Provide general administrative support to Adventure Guide program and event registration including creating and maintaining a participant database, developing uniform registration form and process, and copying and distributing flyers.

Develop value add programs and appreciation initiatives for the Adventure Guides program that honor their commitment and participation with the Y.

Through intentional relationship building, partner with local boy/girl scout groups to provide engagement initiatives, volunteer projects, and badge programs.

Serves as main point of contact for the Adventure Guides program and its participants.

Youth and Family Events

Birthday Parties

Coordinates all birthday party efforts from intake through fruition.

Works with participants to schedule dates, collect payment, and ensure they have a safe and enjoyable event.

Coordinates staffing for all events, orders supplies and other needs for each party.

Provides communication to all participants and staff such as scheduling, updates, and changes. 

Assist in training and onboarding staff. Ensures quality programming and participant satisfaction.

Family Nights & Kids Night Out 

Coordinate all family night events including our Monthly Events and other special events

Coordinates staffing for all events, orders supplies and other needs for each event

Provides communication to community members and staff regarding scheduling, updates and changes

Works with staff to schedule dates, activities and other needs to ensure a safe and enjoyable event

Perform all other duties as assigned.
