Job Description

Under the direction of the Preschool Director, the Preschool Teacher is responsible for the delivery of a high-quality educational experience, using the Creative Curriculum, for the children and families under his/her care - with the aid of a Teacher Assistant.

Qualifications
  • Previous experience teaching Pre-K children ages 3 to 5 years old preferably in a daycare setting. 
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills are essential.
  • Knowledge of teamwork, parent involvement, problem identification, and family and group dynamics.
  • Bi-lingual in Spanish preferred.
Essential Functions
  • Promotes and incorporates the YMCA four core values and character development model into all program activities.
  • Must maintain in compliance with the Y’s Way to the Creative Curriculum.
  • Plan and conduct daily activities for children, with Director’s approval.
  • Supervise and guide teacher assistants ensuring that they are working towards the YMCA mission and have a clear understanding of and follow the four core values, leading by example.
  • Prepare developmentally appropriate educational material needed to implement the daily activity.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, pleasant physical environment conducive to optimal growth and development of children.
  • Observe, record, and evaluate children’s significant behavior.
  • Supervise indoor-outdoor activities and nap periods.
  • Attend staff and parent meetings and contribute to the meeting.
  • Meet with individual parents at least twice yearly to report on child’s progress, discuss concerns with parents and act on those concerns.
Required Certifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education
  • State of NJ Teaching Certification (preschool through grade three).
