Aquatic Director

We are seeking a dynamic & experienced AQ Director to lead, grow, and shape our aquatics operations.
Job Description

This Team Leader position is an instrumental position in the overall direction, coordination, operation, and success of the Sonoma County Family Y's Aquatics Department. The Aquatics Director will ensure the department meets or exceeds financial goals, while providing remarkable leadership in areas of member & staff experience, as well as retention and growth of programs and membership. The position will create an atmosphere that ensures member satisfaction and promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with Y mission, core values, policies, and procedures. The position is full-time and exempt, which requires flexibility. The work schedule is not fixed and may include variable hours, including early mornings, evenings and weekends, based on operational needs. Candidates should be comfortable adapting to changing priorities while maintaining high-quality and consistent performance.

Qualifications
  • Minimum 21 years of age.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent combination of education & experience.
  • 2 or more years’ experience in managing aquatic operations, or related programs and services.
  • Must possess all required lifeguard/instructor certifications (Title 22/American Red Cross/YMCA) or obtain within 90 days of employment.
  • Must have current First Aid/CPR w/AED or obtain within 30 days of employment.
  • Excellent communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations effectively.
  • High level of proficiency in MS Office applications: Excel, Word, Publisher & Outlook.
  • Must live within a commutable distance to the YMCA facility.
  • Fingerprint clearance with the Department of Justice (DOJ) and FBI, to include sex offender screening.
Essential Functions
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work with a diverse population.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules, and directs personnel/volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  • Cultivates a member-focused team. Determine required core competencies, skills & trainings as needed.
  • Ability to support members in their health & wellness journey through relationship building.
  • Work with the Membership Director to ensure a positive member experience.
  • Oversees all aspects/operations of community programs/partnerships.
  • Monitors daily operations to ensure consistent safety standards are being met across all aquatic operations.
  • Ensure all staff are current with required certifications, as well as assisting in providing CPR/First Aid classes, lifeguard/ instructor training.
  • Maintains accurate records as required by the Y and/or the state Health Department code.
  • Ability to work, adapt and prioritize in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Responsible for working with the Bldgs./Grounds Director to ensure cleanliness, maintenance, upkeep and safety of pool area. Make recommendations when new equipment is needed.
  • Proven ability in forecasting, budgeting and fiscal management, program growth, management, and development.
  • Analyze and evaluate data, systems & processes to recognize growth and retention opportunities, ensuring a diverse offering of classes and programs.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret policies. Ability to respond to and resolve common inquiries or concerns.
  • Actively participates in all fundraising efforts.
  • Integral part of the Leadership Team; serving as Manager on Duty, attending weekly meetings.
  • Participate & support various Y/community events.
  • Identify, develop, and nurture collaborative relationships with community organizations.
  • Perform other duties deemed necessary.

Required Certifications
  • Must possess current required lifeguard/instructor certifications (Title 22/American Red Cross/YMCA) or be able to recertify within 60 days of employment.
  • Must have current First Aid/CPR w/AED or obtain within 30 days of employment.
  • CPO(Certified Pool Operator) certification preferred
