Membership Director

YMCA of Metropolitan Columbus, GA seeks to find  a dynamic candidate for our Membership Director.
Job Description

The Membership Director is responsible for supporting all membership retention and sales activities to achieve stated goals, including increase member satisfaction, reduce member terminations and improve new member acquisition rates at all branches. These goals will be achieved by working collaboratively with key staff and through creative thinking, diligence as it relates to data and reporting, and a positive, upbeat attitude towards achieving Association goals. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The incumbent serves others by intentionally welcoming, connecting, and supporting them and inviting them to get involved and give back to the community.

Qualifications
  • Four-year college degree preferred.  High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 7-10 years successful customer relationship and staff management work experience.
  • Excellent relationship-building skills coupled with critical thinking.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification within 30 days of hire.  Must be kept current during employment.
  • Capable of analyzing and interpreting membership data trends.
  • Must be able to multitask, set priorities effectively and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills, particularly the ability to read, analyze, write, edit reports according to prescribed style/format and correspond with external businesses and community members.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, peers, volunteers, members, contributors, and the general public.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, as well as the ability to collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions, reason and solve problems.
  • Ability to develop and use spreadsheets and standard business software systems.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations.
  • Minimum age of 25.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, proof of automobile insurance, and clean MVR that meets all YMCA standards.
Essential Functions
  1. Direct and administer total operation of the Membership Department, including the interpretation and execution of established policies, the development of procedures and methods, staffing, evaluation of the effectiveness of the programs and operations.
  2. Responsible for corporate partnerships, membership promotions, membership recognition and appreciation activities along with community image and awareness through marketing of the YMCA's mission and Programs.
  3. Create and leverage existing reports in our membership platform tool to assist with brainstorming and ongoing improvements/changes.  Monitor and strive to improve member retention.
  4. Manages the workflow of all 3rd party providers.  Tracks revenue from 3rd party providers through YMCA systems, providing month-end reporting to the finance department. 
  5. Build bridges within the community so that all segments of society have access to the Y. Represents and promotes the YMCA in the local community and develops positive working relationships with other organizations, businesses, and governmental entities. Develops and maintains positive collaborative relationships with community agencies in service delivery area.
  6. Effectively communicates community benefit and the Y’s impact for all stakeholders (e.g., staff, volunteers, members, community leaders) develops positive working and collaborative relationships with other organizations, businesses, and governmental entities. 
  7. Develops and directs high-quality member engagement strategies and programs which support branch and association goals and strategies. Establishes plans for the expansion of programs and services, in harmony with overall YMCA objectives and the leadership team.
  8. Oversee the hiring, training, development and supervision of membership staff. Develop strategies to motivate staff, develop goals, and achieve established goals. 
  9. Foster a climate of innovation to develop member-focused programs which support the Y mission, goals, and strategies.
  10. Serve as a member of YMCA management Senior Leadership Team and support the overall objectives of the YMCA. 
  11. Follow all policies and procedures established by the YMCA for staff, managers, and leadership. Enforce all policies.
  12. Support the mission and strategic plan of the YMCA through projects and other responsibilities as assigned.
