Job Description

Under the guidance of the Association Operations Aquatics Director and in alignment with the Merrimack Valley YMCA’s goals and objectives, the Andover/North Andover Aquatics Director is responsible for overseeing all programs, activities, and daily operations within the Aquatics Department. This includes managing three pools, a splash pad, and a sauna. Additionally, the Aquatics Director will oversee a growing swim lesson program, serving over 700 participants monthly. The Aquatics Director will direclty oversees the aquatic staff including lifeguards and instructors; administers a comprehensive staff development program; maintains a safe aquatic environment; develops and implements programs; has fiscal accountability; and participates as a member of the leadership staff team. The Director will help champion a culture of service excellence and support and advocate the mission and values of the YMCA.

All employees are mandated reporters and will adhere to the requirements outlined in the Child Abuse Prevention Policy and Procedures. Per our commitment to a safe environment and youth protection, you must attend required CAP and Safety/Risk Management Trainings each year.

Qualifications

·         Related Aquatics education or experience preferred.

·         YMCA Leader certification preferred.

·         Two+ years related experience preferred; for example, as an Assistant Aquatics Director, Coordinator or  supervisor administering aquatic safety, staff managemnt and program development.

·         Must be Lifeguard certified including BLS/First Aid/Oxygen and YSL certified-YMCA certifications preferred. Any missing certifications must be successfully completed within the first 30 days or first course available. LGI and CPO within the first 90 days and LGIT, YSL-IT strongly preferred and achieved within the first year.

·         Financial management and budget experience preferred.

·         Must have excellent computer skills, proficient in Microsoft and Google Suites

·         Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

·         Ability to interact with a diversity of people and various levels of personnel.

·         Must complete Merrimack Valley YMCA online Child Abuse Prevention Training within the first two weeks of employment.

Essential Functions

1.    Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations and conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pools. Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.

2.    Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. Completes related reports as required.

3.    Maintains effective, positive relationships with the members, participants and other staff.

4.    Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.

5.    Ensure appropriate equipment is available as needed.

6.    Serve as a part of the Andover Branch Management Team.  This will include building coverage, attending staff meetings, providing leadership at the branch in addressing membership and program issues and assisting other programs as needed.

7.    Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Lead staff development and growth opportunities. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.

8.    Recruits and hires diverse staff and volunteer teams across multiple dimensions of diversity. On boards and develops them for success. Conducts swim instruction training, lifeguard onboarding, and ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete for lifeguards, CPR, Water Fitness and YSL. This includes oversight of continued education opportunities for staff including monthly in-service training.

9.    Create, maintain and ensure accuracy and completion of all aquatics schedules including pool use, programming, water fitness, instructor and lifeguard staffing. 

10.  Exhibits an in-depth understanding and effective implementation of the most current version of Y-Guard standards and YSL curriculum in both private and group swim lesson programming. 

11.  Demonstrates a measured annual growth of swim lesson program to meet community needs.

12.  Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.

13.  Actively seeks new collaborative partners to build the branch aquatics program.

14.  Compiles program statistics. Evaluates program quality and makes necessary changes and conducts the evaluation of staff and participants in the program.  

15.  Financial Development: Budget Process and Development. Build annual Aquatics budget, set and meet fiscal goals to align with program, branch and association goals.

16.  Provides leadership and support of Annual Campaign that results in the achievement of our annual fundraising goal.
