Job Description

Under the guidance of the CEO, the Healthy Living Director’s primary responsibilities are to support the development, implementation, and administration of high-quality health & well-being programs, services, events, and activities for a diverse population, including youth, adult, older adult and for health seekers. The Healthy Living Director will support and sometimes lead creation, organization, scheduling, promotion, direction, and supervision of healthy living programs/services for all members including wellness, youth sports, aquatics and dance and is co-responsible for the quality and expansion of those programs/services. This position is instrumental in participant/membership growth, retention, service, and satisfaction. Time is also spent in direct leadership of some program areas. The ideal candidate would have experience and working knowledge in community health and understand how they will serve as a link between local healthcare entities and the YMCA.

This position requires excellent communication, supervisory leadership, and organizational skills that lead to the successful accomplishment of the essential duties and responsibilities listed below. The incumbent will make specific and deliberate efforts to engage members through; direct service, intentional face time, working in the wellness center, special events/member socials, and the development of new programs (specifically addressing chronic disease). Experience in staff supervision, team building, and program development/delivery preferred as is experience with YMCA Cause Driven Initiatives. A person filling this position must demonstrate strong initiative, creativity, flexibility, and be able to operate and promote an environment that supports the YMCA’s mission and its five core values.

Qualifications

1. Bachelor's degree in Health/Wellness, Public Health, Exercise Science related field or equivalent preferred.

2. Two to four years supervisory experience required.

3. Must possess outstanding public relations skills, tact, diplomacy, and a clear, courteous professional manner with people and enjoy a high degree of interaction with older adults, families and health seekers both within the Y facilities and in the community.

4. Must enjoy working with diverse community, beginning exercisers and health seekers and possess good listening and human relations skills.

5. Minimum age of 21.

6. Typical requirements within 30 days of hire include: completion of: Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff; CPR; First Aid; AED

7. Completion of YMCA program-specific certifications. Obtain YMCA Team leader Certification in first 3 years of employment

8. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of
the community.

Essential Functions

1. Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives.

2. Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs staff and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.

3. Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.

4. Responsible for the marketing and distribution of program information, may organize and schedule program registrations. May review and process program scholarship applications.

5. Collaborates with Director of Member Experience and Director of Community Outreach to maximize member recruitment/retention while reaching underserved populations and create a great Y experience.

6. Develops and monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives.

7. Coordinates use of facilities for program activities and events.

8. Assists in YMCA fundraising activities and special events.

9. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.

10. Maintains Group Fitness schedule

11. Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation
in programs in areas of wellness, aquatics, sports and dance.

12. Works with Aquatics Coordinator to increase participation numbers in aquatics programs-youth swim team, group swim lessons and safety around water initiatives-through quality program delivery.

13. Deliver quality youth sports programs and offer training/camp style opportunities, including Basketball Skills Training Program

14. Works with Dance Program Coordinator to ensure high quality program delivery

15. Assure program and department areas are kept clean and functional. Daily walk throughs.

16. Build community collaborations to provide community information seminars (nutrition, fall prevention, memory care, smoking cessation, etc)

17. Develop a preventative maintenance cleaning schedule for all fitness/aquatics equipment

18. Be available for regularly scheduled leadership meetings

19. Host one monthly staff meeting per department

20. Performs other duties as assigned.
