ABOUT OUR COMMUNITY

The Glacial Community YMCA serves a diverse and evolving set of communities across southeastern Wisconsin, united by shared values but marked by distinct economic and social realities.

The YMCA’s flagship branch, the YMCA at Pabst Farms, is located in Oconomowoc on the western edge of Wisconsin’s Lake Country—an area defined by 23 lakes just west of the greater Milwaukee region. Perfectly positioned between Milwaukee and Madison, the branch sits within a 10-minute drive of more than 70,000 residents. While Lake Country communities are often associated with affluence, that perception masks meaningful need. Local school districts report that approximately 15% of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, underscoring the presence of families who experience financial strain despite living in an overall prosperous area. In this environment, the YMCA serves as a bridge—ensuring that access to health, childcare, youth development, and community connection is not determined by income or circumstance.

The second branch, the Schultz Family YMCA, serves the greater Watertown area, a community of more than 30,000 residents. Originally opened 15 years ago in a repurposed school building, the YMCA recently completed a successful capital campaign, opening a new, purpose-built facility in November 2025. Watertown’s school district reports that approximately 37% of students receive free or reduced-price lunch, reflecting a significantly higher level of economic need. At the same time, Watertown is experiencing a renaissance as one of the few rural population centers in the region showing positive growth and revitalization. The YMCA plays a central role in this transformation—providing a welcoming gathering place, supporting working families, strengthening youth outcomes, and contributing to the community’s long-term vitality.

Across both communities, the Glacial Community YMCA operates at the intersection of opportunity and need. Whether in Lake Country or Watertown, the YMCA serves as a trusted, inclusive institution—responding to local realities, strengthening social cohesion, and ensuring that everyone, regardless of background, has access to the resources and relationships needed to thrive.
