Job Description

Under the general direction of the CEO and consistent with the Christian mission of the YMCA, the VP of Financial Development and Marketing is responsible for building the community’s understanding of the YMCA’s cause and impact and developing and implementing effective fundraising, marketing, communication and outreach goals. This job will position the YMCA as a “charity of choice” for the investment of donations within the local community and be responsible for building the community’s understanding of the YMCA’s cause and impact.

Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience.
2. Previous experience in Annual Fundraising and Capital Fundraising for nonprofits preferred.
3. Must have good interpersonal, public relations and communication skills.
4. Computer and fundraising software experience preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
1. Ability to walk, stand, bend and sit for long periods of time.
2. Must be able to lift and/or assist up to 40 pounds.

Essential Functions
  • Supervise Marketing and Fundraising employees, ensuring reviews on a yearly basis.
  • Create a comprehensive fundraising strategy, including case development, budgeting and stewardship.
  • Ensure success of the Annual Giving Campaign by reaching personal, branch and association goals.
  • Lead the Advancement Committee of the Gaston County Family YMCA
  • Serve on the Endowment Committee and work closely with the CEO on planned giving.
  • Works in conjunction with Leadership staff to create and manage a fundraising infrastructure, including donor software systems and automated processes for giving and sponsorships.
  • Create a yearly campaign stewardship schedule for who, what, when, where and how we will
    communicate with all donors. Annual and Capital.
  • Provides leadership for peer-to-peer fundraising efforts.
  • Trains branch staff and volunteers in gift solicitation. Works closely with executive leadership.
  • Collaborate with Leadership staff to develop communication and campaign strategies to successfully market the annual campaign. Supports plans for identifying, cultivating and soliciting branch annual prospects.
  • Writes clearly and concisely, using correct grammar, vocabulary and appropriate tone for message or audience and speaks in a clear, articulate manner.
  • Oversees prospect/donor correspondence. Ensures that each branch is timely in these communications.
  • Directly supervise Marketing Director who is responsible for the following:
    • Develop and execute integrated marketing strategies across core YMCA program areas
      including Membership, Summer Camp, Afterschool, Youth Sports, Wellness, etc.
    • Direct and facilitate the Quarterly Marketing Planning Process, ensuring cross-functional
      alignment.
    • Lead execution of all marketing initiatives including content development, campaign messaging, and audience targeting. Oversee brand consistency and optimization of platforms including the Gaston YMCA’s mobile app and website.
    • Strategically manage email marketing through Gaston YMCA’s CRM, segmenting audiences and tracking engagement.
    • Execute multi-channel content strategies across social media, paid ads (radio, email campaigns), and local publications.
    • Conduct and analyze data strength SEO reports to enhance digital presence and drive organic engagement.
    • Develop and execute campaigns to support membership growth and special events.
    • Develop and distribute press releases to local media outlets, ensuring clear, timely communication that strengthens community awareness and engagement.
    • Lead members through email and mobile app notifications, delivering timely updates on programs, schedules, facility changes, and organizational news.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Child Abuse Prevention Functions:

  • Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers.
  • Attend/complete required abuse risk management training before working with consumers and on an annual basis.
  • Follow mandated reporting requirements.
