POSITION SUMMARY: This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Sports Director is responsible for but not limited to: manages program operation, development and growth, participant satisfaction, member and staff retention and safety, staff supervision, onboarding, training, and coaching. As a Sports Director at the Y, you lead an environment that is inviting and serves all.
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in related field or equivalent is preferred.
- Certified CPR/First Aid/AED within designated time of hire.
- Minimum 2 years related experience required.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Able to work independently and with minimal supervision. Organized and detail oriented.
- Adept computer skills in Office 365.
- Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekend, and holidays.
- Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
Essential Functions
- Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives.
- Establishes new program activities and expands programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
- Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance.
- Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.
- Conducts and ensures proper maintenance of relative program equipment. Secures and schedules program facilities.
- Ensures the implementation of the Risk Management program to ensure safe facilities and programs for members, volunteers and staff.
- Work with leadership to set operational and performance goals for assigned staff, which are aligned with long term goals and strategies of the association.
- Develop, coordinate, market and evaluate all program offerings and services.
- Develop annual budget for portfolio. Monitor monthly financial reports to ensure that revenue targets are met, and expenses are controlled. Adjust programs accordingly.
- Lead key elements of annual campaign as assigned towards increasing goals to support community services and the mission of the Y.
- Models relationship-building skills, including Listen First, in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
- Assists with cabinet meetings. Ensure that staff meetings are productive and high functioning.
- Continually communicate with and inform staff about YMCA initiates and trends.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
