Vice President of Youth Development

We are hiring for an experienced Vice President of Youth Development to carry out our strategic priorities at the association level. 
Job Description

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the direction of the Chief Operating Officer, the Vice President of Youth Development provides executive leadership and strategic direction for Youth Development as a primary pillar of impact within the YMCA of Southern Nevada’s 2026–2030 strategic plan. 

This position provides oversight to all Youth Development and Safety and Risk operations including: 

  • Early Childhood Education (ECE) and Licensed Childcare (3 onsite locations, 1 offsite location)  
  • Before and After School programs (1 offsite location)
  • Academic Intervention & Power Scholars Academy (7 offsite locations)  
  • Summer Camp (association-wide)
  • Teen Programs  
  • 21st Century and CCSD partnerships
  • Character development and youth mental wellness initiatives  
  • Outdoor education and recreation
  • Nutrition program
  • Youth Protection and Safety & Risk Management  
  • Childcare Expansion  
  • The Vice President directly supervises three Association Senior Directors (Early Childhood; Afterschool
  • Academic Intervention; Camp & Teens) and is responsible for strategic growth, financial sustainability,
  • compliance, workforce development, risk management, and measurable community impact outcomes. 

Success is measured by expanded access, improved academic and social-emotional outcomes, sustainable financial performance, and strong public-private partnerships. 

Qualifications
  1. Bachelor’s degree in Education, Child Development, Nonprofit Management, or related field required. Master’s degree preferred.  
  2. Minimum of 10 years progressive leadership experience in youth development or licensed childcare, including multi-site management. Minimum of 5 years supervising senior-level leaders.
  3. Minimum of 5 years managing a $2 million budget or greater. Demonstrated experience managing complex grant-funded programs. 
  4. Experience working with public school systems and government partnerships preferred. Previous YMCA experience preferred. 
  5. Highly skilled in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). 
  6. Experience with budgeting software and data reporting platforms.  
  7. Strong strategic thinking and change management skills.  
  8. Proven ability to develop authentic relationships and build community partnerships.   
  9. Strong public speaking and executive presence. 
  10. Subject matter expertise in youth development, academic intervention, and licensing compliance.  
  11. Upon hire, completion of YMCA’s Working with Children training 
  12. Within 30 days of hire, current CPR for the professional rescuer (includes AED), First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen certifications 
  13. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
Essential Functions

Strategic Leadership & Impact 

  • Leads the strategic growth and operational execution of Youth Development in alignment with the YMCA of Southern Nevada’s 2026–2030 Framework for the Future.  
  • Expands Early Childhood capacity and school-age programming to increase access within underserved communities, including opening a planned new early learning site in 2026.
  • Strengthens academic outcomes through sustainable academic intervention models.  
  • Integrates character development and youth mental wellness practices across all programs.
  • Develops and monitors key performance indicators.  
  • Applies a mission filter to evaluate grants, partnerships, and program expansion. 

Operational Excellence 

  • Provides direct supervision and coaching to three Association Senior Directors.  
  • Ensures consistent program standards including the YPQA (Youth Program Quality Assessment) and QRIS (Quality Rating Improvement System), curriculum alignment, pricing models, and staffing structures across all sites.
  • Ensures compliance with Nevada childcare licensing, various grants including but not limited to Y-USA, CDBG and 21st Century, NV Ready, CCSD agreements, and YMCA standards.  
  • Oversees association-wide summer camp planning, implementation, staffing, and safety protocols. 
  • Ensures facilities, equipment, and program environments meet high safety and quality standards. 

Financial Sustainability & Growth 

  • Develops and manages a growing 4.4 million-dollar Youth Development budget.  
  • Ensures programs meet or exceed budget and net revenue targets. 
  • Oversees grant development, compliance, reporting, and renewal.  
  • Partners with Mission Advancement and Marketing to grow contributed revenue and community awareness.  
  • Implements responsible pricing strategies that protect access while ensuring sustainability. 

Leadership Development 

  • Builds leadership bench strength and succession plans.  
  • Aligns staffing structures with strategic priorities. 
  • Establishes clear accountability, evaluation systems, and coaching practices.  
  • Strengthens recruitment and retention strategies for licensed childcare and school-age staff. 

Community Engagement & Partnerships 

  • Serves as a liaison to CCSD and education partners.  
  • Strengthens public-private partnerships to expand reach and sustainability.  
  • Represents the YMCA in community coalitions related to youth, education, and family wellbeing. 

Risk Management & Safety 

  • Ensures full compliance with youth protection policies and mandated reporting.  
  • Oversees safety audits, incident reporting systems, and corrective action plans. 
  • Maintains Praesidium standards and a culture of proactive risk management and acts as the Association’s Praesidium Guardian.  
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
