Develops, implements, and ensures compliance with the health care plan. Responsible for the overall health, safety, and well-being of campers and staff.
- Must be at least 21 years old.
- Must be a New York State licensed Registered Nurse, New York State licensed Practical Nurse, or Emergency Medical Technician.
- American Red Cross Advanced First Aid and CPR/AED certification is preferred and required before starting work at camp.
- Experience in emergency medical treatment situations.
- Experience working with children and adults.
- Assess each camper’s ability to participate in camp activities upon arrival.
- Determine the health status of campers and staff on a continuing basis.
- Provide competent first aid and emergency treatment for sudden illness and injury.
- Maintain procedures to prevent and control the spread of contagious disease in camp.
- Follow and enforce department protocol to clean and disinfect commonly used surfaces. Ensure PPE compliance.
- Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the program/work areas.
- Act as overall supervisor of safety and sanitation throughout the camp.
- Maintain the medical records for all campers.
- Establish a procedure for medical treatment.
- Review standing orders with the camp physician.
- Establish a working relationship with each staff member.
- Establish procedures and maintain quality control of the infirmary.
- Participate in pre-camp training and instruct staff on first-aid treatment and infirmary procedures.
- Provide instruction on proper health care to campers.
- Set and maintain regular infirmary hours.
- Adhere to and properly execute emergency procedures.
- Participate in staff meetings.
- Facilitate fire drills during the first 48 hours of each camp session and maintain records.
- Conduct cabin, bathroom, and kitchen inspections regularly. Notify management of problems immediately.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
