Why Your Role Matters 

Youth & Government (YG) is a civic education and leadership program that brings real-world government experiences to students through hands-on learning in the legislative, judicial, media, or state affairs forums. YG clubs meet in schools and community organizations across Texas and culminate in exciting District and State Conferences. 

The Youth and Government Engagement Manager is a mission-driven leader responsible for the recruitment, onboarding, and long-term engagement of YG clubs across the state. With a customer success and relationship-building lens, this role ensures students, advisors, and volunteers are equipped, energized, and empowered throughout the entire program cycle, from initial interest through full participation and post-program engagement. 

We’re excited to offer a dynamic, full-time opportunity based in Austin, Texas. This position follows a hybrid work model designed to support both collaboration and flexibility. Team members work on-site from Tuesday through Thursday, with the option to work remotely on Mondays and Fridays. This is a grant-funded position, providing the chance to contribute to meaningful, mission-driven work.

Qualifications

What You Bring to the Y  

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., Political Science, Public Administration, Education, Youth Development, Communications) or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in youth programs, civic education, or community organizing.
  • Experience growing programs, engaging members, or building community partnerships—especially in education, nonprofits, or youth services.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, and organizational skills.
  • Comfortable with public speaking, coaching, or leading training sessions.
  • Ability to travel across Texas and occasionally work evenings or weekends for events.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Experience with CRM or membership management systems.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred. 
Essential Functions

How You Make an Impact 

  • Grow participation by leading targeted recruitment strategies and cultivating new partnerships with schools, community organizations, and volunteers.
  • Serve as a trusted and welcoming first point of contact for program inquiries, guiding new clubs and advisors through the onboarding process.
  • Collaborate with YMCA leaders statewide to activate marketing and outreach campaigns that elevate visibility and engagement.
  • Deliver engaging onboarding and training experiences for club advisors, volunteers, and mentors—ensuring alignment with program values and standards.
  • Provide ongoing support to advisors and student leaders, building strong relationships that foster connection, retention, and growth.
  • Support teen leadership development by advising State Officers and facilitating youth-led opportunities throughout the year.
  • Design and implement systems to track club engagement, identify trends, and proactively support struggling or lapsed sites.
  • Monitor participation and program data to inform continuous improvement in communications, outreach, and training strategies.
  • Oversee consistent and clear communications with clubs and stakeholders through newsletters, social media, calendars, and resource materials.
  • Help plan and deliver key events—including District and State Conferences, advisor training, and youth-led summits.
  • Stay informed on best practices in youth development and civic education, bringing innovation and relevance to the YG experience.
  • Represent the YMCA and the YG program at local, regional, and national events.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
