The YMCA of Hagerstown is seeking a passionate Aquatics Director to lead our aquatic programs and make a lasting impact in our community.
Job Description
The Director of Aquatics will assume accountability for the planning, development, promotion, supervision and operation of the Aquatics Department, including oversight of lifeguards and swim instructors. The programs offered will be directed towards the needs of the community and in accordance with the purpose and goals of the association.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Must have a bachelor’s degree in health, physical education, recreation or a related field. A minimum of five years professional work experience in the related field may be substituted for the degree.
- Effective team player with high energy and strong customer service skills.
- The candidate should have effective communication skills, both oral and written.
- The candidate must have proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Word).
- Accurate, efficient, detail oriented.
- The candidate must have the ability to balance workload under short deadlines and changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Self-starter and able to work independently to complete tasks and responsibilities.
- Must possess strong leadership skills.
- Must have strong, demonstrated skills in budgeting, personnel management and problem solving.
- Lifeguard, CPR/AED and First Aid certifications required.
- Must possess CPO certification or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
- Must be a strong swimmer and be able to fill in where necessary throughout the department.
- Must be able to stand or sit for long periods and is required to lift up to 50lbs on a limited basis.
Essential Functions
- This individual will recruit, hire, supervise and schedule quality support staff for the department. Assist with recruiting and incorporate volunteers into program areas.
- Assure personal growth of staff through consultations, training, conferences, department meetings and reviews.
- Guide staff in the administration of quality programs by providing support, seeing that policies and procedures are followed, and goals are set and met.
- Ensure that all related programs meet local, state, OSHA, MOSH and YMCA regulations.
- This position requires days, evenings, and weekend availability for programming/staff training.
- Ensure all programs that are offered meet the association and community needs- including character counts in them.
- Maintain written records, reports and related paperwork for activities/programs as deemed necessary by the Association.
- Create new aquatic programs and input programs in the system (pool parties, etc.).
- Prepare annual operational budgets for assigned areas including detailed justifications. Manage and stay within the budget guidelines for the department.
- Manage accurate timekeeping of staff including approval/denial of leave.
- Collaborate with other departments to maintain and adhere by the master calendar schedule.
- Oversee and support various special events and fundraisers.
- Assure customer satisfaction by ensuring that staff have the resources necessary to provide members/ program participants with the highest level of customer service.
- Assure proper maintenance and cleanliness of program areas and equipment.
- Work in conjunction with the marketing department to get the maximum exposure for program areas so that members/program participants are well informed of what is offered.
- Must have a thorough understanding of all pool operating systems / boiler room and be able to trouble shoot and diagnose problem areas.
- Attend all required meetings and training.
- Maintain all required certifications.
- All other duties as assigned.
