Job Description

The Association Aquatics Director is responsible for the strategic leadership and operational excellence of all aquatic programs and facilities across the Decatur Shelby County YMCA. This role provides direction and oversight for the development, implementation, and evaluation of high-quality aquatics programming that supports the Y’s mission and serves the needs of the community. The Director oversees risk management, safety standards, staff supervision and development, facility maintenance, and budget management, while also serving as a subject matter expert in aquatic safety and training. In collaboration with branch leaders and community partners, the Association Aquatics Director ensures innovative growth, community engagement, and consistent delivery of impactful, mission-driven services across the association.

Qualifications
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Bachelor's degree with 3 years of successful aquatic management or equivalent experience
  • 2 years of demonstrated experience in staff and team leadership
  • CPR for the Professional Rescuer or equivalent, First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen
  • YMCA Aquatic Supervisor or Team Leader certification preferred.
  • Must hold Lifeguard and Swim Instructor certification at time of hire
  • Must hold or can acquire Lifeguard Instructor certification within 90 days of hire
Essential Functions
  • Provide strategic leadership and daily oversight for all aquatic programs, facilities, and staff to ensure alignment with YMCA goals and community needs.
  • Serve as the association’s subject matter expert in aquatic safety and risk management, ensuring all operations meet YMCA, state, and local health regulations.
  • Directly supervise Associate Aquatics Directors and staff; recruit, train, evaluate, and retain high-performing aquatic professionals and volunteers.
  • Oversee fiscal management of aquatics programs including budget development, payroll approval, and reporting accuracy for certifications and safety documentation.
  • Collaborate with branch leaders to develop and evaluate new programs that expand community reach; foster partnerships with local organizations.
  • Conduct and coordinate training in lifeguarding, swim instruction, CPR, and emergency drills; ensure proper pool maintenance and chemical balance.
  • All other duties assigned by the Executive Branch Directors

Required Certifications
