The Southington YMCA seeks a dynamic Development Director to oversee $300k in event-driven revenue and manage an annual campaign of $110k.
Job Description

The Development Director is a key leadership position responsible for planning, implementing, and managing all fundraising activities for the Southington branch to support the organization's mission and growth. This role oversees $300,000+ in revenue from signature fundraising events and directs the annual campaign, generating $110,000 in individual and corporate support. The Development Director works closely with the CEO, Branch Director and Development Committee to manage and execute our large-scale special events, cultivate donor relationships, secure sponsorships, and expand the organization’s visibility and philanthropic support. Ideal candidates will bring a strategic mindset, strong communication skills, experience in event planning and a proven track record in nonprofit development.

Qualifications

Qualified candidate should possess a four-year college degree in a related field, and should fulfill the following requirements:

  • 3+ years experience in fundraising and special events planning.
  • Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in planning and executing large scale events.
  • Experience in fundraising, grant writing, annual giving campaigns.
  • Budgetary experience and sound fiscal management skills.
  • Ability to build community relationships and collaborations.
  • Ability to collaborate with volunteer and staff teams.
Essential Functions

Under the direction of the CEO, the Development Director is responsible for developing, implementing and meeting our overall fundraising goals for the year. This includes, planning and execution of special events for the Southington branch and association-wide events.  This position also includes leadership of the annual support campaign.  Additional responsibilities include leading our Development Committee, identifying grant opportunities, securing United Way funding, and supporting other charitable opportunities. 

  • Provide Leadership to our special events as a primary focus of the position, meeting or exceeding budgetary goals.
  • Work with the CEO as well as the Branch Executive Director in Southington to lead the YMCA Annual Support Campaign for the branch. 
  • Collaborate and lend support to the Cheshire branch on related annual campaign efforts and special events.
  • Conduct annual campaign trainings for staff and volunteers.
  • Assist in leading the Annual Fundraising Presentation to the Board of Directors.
  • Prepare the annual United Way proposal and bi-annual reports. 
  • Lead and grow our Development Committee, recruiting additional volunteers as needed; coordinate and schedule Development committee meetings.
  • Nurture and grow relationships within the community; cultivate new donors annually. 
  • Work with the CEO and CFO on developing the departmental budget.
  • Assist CEO with the planned giving strategies and planned giving month. 
  • Oversee Marketing and Special Events Coordinator to ensure our work is well promoted and advertised in a timely and professional manner.
  • Assist with friend-raising and volunteer development.
  • Lead donor appreciation efforts and events throughout the year.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Committee and Meeting Responsibilities:

  • Lead the monthly Development Committee meetings; acting as the staff liaison and developing the agenda and chart of work with the volunteer chair.
  • Lead and support the Forever in Blue Jeans Planning Committee meetings.
  • Bi-weekly meetings with CEO.
  • Attend weekly Operations Meetings with Southington Branch Executive Director.
  • Quarterly meeting with the Association Development Team. 
  • Attend Association Staff Meetings; leading assigned portions as needed.
  • Annual Winter and Fall staff retreats and other related meetings as needed.
  • Attendance at YPN and other related professional organizations when possible.
