The Association Director of Alumni Engagement leads the YMCA of Greater Charlotte’s efforts to
strengthen relationships and philanthropic support among alumni of its two overnight camps—Camp
Thunderbird and Camp Harrison. This role develops and implements comprehensive strategies for
alumni engagement, annual giving, and donor portfolio management. By fostering lifelong connections,
leading alumni events, and advancing fundraising efforts, this position plays a critical role in supporting
camper scholarships, capital priorities, and program sustainability.

Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree required or equivalent directly related work experience required.
• Minimum 6 years of progressive experience in fundraising, alumni engagement, or nonprofit
advancement.
• Proven success in managing a donor portfolio and implementing a moves management system.
• Strong skills in relationship-building, event planning, and strategic communication.
• Experience working in youth development, resident camp, or outdoor education environments is
highly desirable.
• Proficiency in CRM systems (e.g., Raiser’s Edge, Salesforce) and donor analytics tools.
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and project management skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and donors.
• Commitment to the mission and values of the YMCA.
All YMCA team members are expected to maintain a current and active status for all safety, risk, and
programming certifications defined by the YMCA of Greater Charlotte.
Preferred Qualifications
• Additional nonprofit, development, or alumni relations training preferred.
Working Conditions
• Based at the YMCA of Greater Charlotte’s association office, with regular travel to Camp
Thunderbird and Camp Harrison.
• Frequent evening and weekend responsibilities for alumni events, donor meetings, and camp
programming.
• Role requires on-site presence at camp programs and alumni activities in indoor and outdoor
environments.
• May involve lifting, walking long distances, and extended periods of standing during events.
Design and execute a multi-generational alumni engagement strategy that deepens relationships
and drives philanthropic support for Camp Thunderbird and Camp Harrison.
Manage a portfolio of individual donors and prospects, including alumni, families, and community
members, using a structured moves management process to cultivate, solicit, and steward gifts.
Plan and implement alumni events and reunion programs that foster connection, volunteerism,
and sustained giving.
Collaborate with Camp Directors, YMCA leadership, and marketing teams to align storytelling,
messaging, and development priorities.
Develop compelling content and donor communications in partnership with the Director of Donor
Relations to highlight impact and enhance engagement.
Lead data-driven prospect identification, portfolio analysis, and performance tracking using CRM
tools and dashboards.
Serve as the primary liaison to camp alumni advisory groups and volunteers engaged in outreach
and fundraising.
Collect and share alumni stories that reflect the mission and life-changing impact of camp
experiences.
Support annual fundraising campaigns and special projects related to camper scholarships,
capital improvements, and legacy giving.
Represent the YMCA as an alumni and philanthropic ambassador in the broader community.
