The YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas is seeking a dedicated and strategic Director of Major & Planned Gifts to help advance our mission through the cultivation of transformational donor relationships. Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, this position plays a key role in securing major and planned gifts that support the Y’s long-term vision and community impact. This position will focus on securing gifts from YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas members, donors and employees as well as growing and stewarding the Heritage Club Society recognition group. The right candidate is excited to take the next career step and appreciates the challenge of discovery work and building relationships.
A bachelor’s degree in business, communications, or marketing and seven (7) years of previous fundraising experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Demonstrated successful track record in the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major and planned gifts ($50,000 and above) preferred.
Proficient in constituent relationship management (CRM) system to strategically plan and track activities.
History of initiating planned giving conversations with prospective donors, and is comfortable discussing gifts of assets, appreciated securities and developing long-term relations with planned giving donors.
Strong skills in creating powerful, compelling written and oral communications for fundraising. The ability to convey complex ideas via presentations, emails, and face-to-face communications.
Must be a proactive and creative problem-solver, able to work both independently and with a broad range of internal and external partners to develop relationships, facilitate collaboration and achieve results.
Demonstrated understanding of fundraising best practices in annual giving campaign, direct response, special events and working with volunteers.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook), and donor/constituent management databases.
Must demonstrate strong organizational and time-management skills, with outstanding attention to detail and ability to uphold deadlines.
Develop a strong working knowledge of YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas funding priorities and campaign objectives specifically in order to articulate a compelling case for support to all constituents.
Manage a portfolio of 150 prospects and generate 10-15 prospects visits per month leading to the growth in the number of completed major, planned, and blended gift solicitations.
Represent the Y under a variety of circumstances, including interactions/meetings with funders, staff and volunteers, and at networking opportunities.
Introduces planned giving options, including bequests, beneficiary designations, charitable gift annuities and charitable remainder trusts.
Assist donors in making charitable decisions, including proposals, illustrating planned giving concepts and working with donor advisors.
Collaborates with development staff to build proposals and stewardship activities that align with donor interests.
Builds and nurtures effective working relations with administrative leadership, branch leadership and volunteers.
Identify, recruit and train volunteer leaders who can extend the reach of staff through involvement in the cultivation and solicitation of prospective donors.
